Thigh Tingling & Burning Pain

When something barely touches my thigh, it feels like it is on fire & has a tingly sensation.  This has been getting gradually worse within the past 2 days. No rashes, no trauma. I am getting very concerned & am debating going into the ER. (I cant get in to see my PCP til next week).  I just don't know what to do.  My thigh also "jumps" for no reason. These symptoms are worse when I am sitting down & my foot keeps on tingling like it has gone to sleep.

While it could be a pinched nerve it is highly unlikely if the pain is in your thigh.  Most pinched nerves occur in the spinal region (as a pinched nerve requires some kind of compression, normally between bones) and would cause pain in the back of the legs or the arms.  Thigh pain sounds more muscular.  Also nerve pain is normally described as numbness and/or sharp or stabbing not burning and tingling.  Could you elaborate more on how it feels?  Might be able to give better advice.: D

Thanks for the updated info! It sounds like from your mri you do have some blockage in the lumbar spine which is where all the nerves are for your lower legs.  That is also the sciatic area which will cause pain in the legs. The "electric" feeling you are describing does sound like nerve pain however with your increased sensitivity in your thigh I would see a doctor soon to discuss your new pain.  The Mri states that there was no neural impingement but, yes, it sounds like there is definitely one now.  A new MRI would be warranted with your new pain. Although, I would think that because the new pain it hypersensitive, it sounds like your nerves are hypersensitive rather than blocked, as blocked would cause some pain and numbness.  Sever pain could indicate another neurological issue as the pain center is in your brain. It could be a condition that also causes degenerated discs as that was indicated in your t-spine report. I hope that his helps but I do believe that with a new exam and your new symptoms a answer can be found.  I had sciatic problems before and it caused severe pain as well - so maybe accupunture or chiropractic care could help relive some of the pain - especially if you have a pinched nerve(impingement). Good Luck!

Just the lightest touch on my thigh makes it feel so painful & it doesn't happen all the time. I got in the shower the other day & the water hitting my thigh make it hurt. It feels like a burning, electric, tingling, stabbing pain all rolled into one.
I had a MRI in Feb 2010 on my thoracic spine & it states: " There are mulitlevel endplate spurs most prominent @ T8-9, & there are mininal Schmorl's nodes @ this level. There are minimal posterior disc bulges @ T5-6 thru T9-10 and T11-12 and T12-L1, not associated with neural impingement. These discs are slightly desiccated and narrowed.  There is no central canal or neural formaminal stenosis.
IMPRESSION: Multilevel minimal degenerative disc disease without evidence of neural impingement.

The MRI of the Lumbar spine states: There is minimal degenerative retrolisthesis of L5.  T12-L1: the disc is desiccated and narrowed and demonstrates a minimal annular bulge without neural impingement. L5-S1: The disc is slightly narrowed and desiccated. There is minimal annular disc bulge without neural impingement.

So back in Feb 2010 there was no neural impingement. Do you think that that's not the case now?

Thanks 4 ur help

I'm definately not a qualified expert, but I know that you can injure yourself, for example break your arm in your sleep and not even know.  Also the tingling/ burning is a sign of a nerve being pinched or damaged. (I recently had a knee injury) The ER will x-ray but can't tell anything without an MRI.  I think it sounds like you've got a pinched nerve, and your PCP will be able to help more than the ER

this is kinda a zebra but it sound to me like lactic acid.  Lactic acid is produced when your muscles don't get enough oxygen and it causes a burning/stinging feeling much like the feeling you might get during exercise.  You may want to get your blood oxygen checked.  Lack of oxygen in the blood and leg could also cause the feeling in your foot.  Are you a smoker or do you suffer from asthma?  Have you had any dizziness or lightheadedness? I hope this helps!
