Combo Test Negative at 8 weeks - Is it a good indicator?

Hello:

1. I had protected (vaginal and oral) sex with a girl on Jan 14th, 2017. She seemed to be careful, conscious of hygiene and insisted of protection.

2. Developed mouth ulcers and penis rashes first week of March.

3. March 12th 2017, exactly 8 weeks later we did blood test in details. All reports negative, except we discovered Herpes. The testing was done using combo test - HIV 1&2 + p24. The lab report had a note at the bottom which said, if the risk exposure was within 3 weeks, then another check is recommended in 2 weeks. Which means the window is 5 weeks and my analysis was done in 8 weeks

4. Not sure Herpes was already there, based on symptoms I recollect, may be it was there earlier also.

5. No sex since Jan14th, 2017

6. Just that Herpes OB was strong after this sex contact, I am a bit anxious. I also have a vericocele in left testicular, which makes it burning sensation + some pain

7. Question : Based on the 8 weeks result, can I assume my HIV status negative accordingly?

Kindly suggest. Many thanks for your feedback in advance.

Best Regards.

Using condoms is how people prevent the spread of HIV. Therefore you had no risk for HIV because you had protected sex.

Herpes is spread by skin to skin contact and is very easy to spread because using condoms still does not prevent the spread of herpes.

To sum up, you had no risk for HIV, which obviously means no reason to test. But you got herpes because it spreads very easily by skin to skin contact and can't be prevented by using condoms.

So if I can understand you, the fact that I protected and 8 weeks combo test is negative (more significantly), keeps me out of any HIV risk?

Really this strong Herpes OB, made me jumping, else I agree with you.

In fact despite taking Valaciclovir getting itching sensation sometimes in Penis and ulcers reoccurred in mouth, while taking this antiviral - makes me nervous. I was of the understanding that while consuming this antiviral, they should disappear. Do you have any thoughts on this? Or this might be pointing to something else? Shall I take a 3 month confirmatory test for HIV?

Thank you very much...

Reread the advice repeatedly focusing on the word "no" which was used 3 times to get the full meaning of the advice.
There is a herpes forum for that info. http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Herpes/show/195
