Almost done and my butt still hurts

I wish I ran across this forum when I started all this stuff 24 weeks ago, y'all have some good suggestions about the butt problem.  I did the 12 weeks of incivek, pegasys and ribasphere, then 12 weeks of pegasys and ribasphere.  I feel very blessed and lucky it appears to have worked, was at viral load of 0 after a few weeks and continue now.  I had minimal side effects (just tired from the pegasys for the first 6 weeks and the first shot, that night was not pleasant, but it all subsided) except for the burning ring of fire.

I took my last shot last night (!) and have 6 more days of ribasphere.  Within a week or two of staring the incivek the crap started, literally.  what upset me more was taking a mirror and a flashlight and squatted over a magnifying mirror; I didn't need to see that.  I tried baths (which I think made the itching worse), witch hazel (which helped a little to cool it even tho it burned like a mofo), calmoseptine & roid cream which did nothing.   It was first a nasty whitish ulcer near my perineum (6 o'clock) then _after_ I stopped the incivek something else developed at 12 o'clock on the inside, which hurts.  dr gave me some viscous lidocaine which help a LOT, I could at least sit at work all day and feel ok.

One thing I read here, which did work for me was make your stools as firm as possible.  It's this double edge sword of it being too hard and irritating things and making it bleed, but the less you wipe the better.  So with my constant diet of carbs I've put on 15 lbs since I started ;-)

I read at one point that the steroid creams would make it worse, but it sounds like you had some good results?  I think I'm going to start that tomorrow.  while now it's not the 7-8 (on a scale of 10 with 10 being yowza) that it was when I started, it's now a 1-2 but it can go away anytime now.  I have a very high pain tolerance and this tested that.

I've never taken a drug that didn't do what it was supposed to do, and I've never taken a drug that I've had side effects, until incivek.

So my question (sorry for the long preamble) for anyone that is done done with it all and had butt problems, when did all that completely subside?

thanks,
Sej

Hi, so you are doing 24 weeks of therapy?  then you were und at week 4 and week 12?    Lots of people have rectal problems but they do away after treatment is over.  I was lucky, that was one sx that didnt give me to much trouble.   Welcome and hope you stick around during the rest of your treatment and recovery stage
Best wishes

I am going to be taking my 24 th and last peg shot this comingTuesday, but still spent yesterday at the butt doctor, and the hell fire down there was a fissure - folks need to check up on these things as unpleasant as they are.

All good answers and info, don't know why it picked that best answer.
@his3707, yes, 24 weeks total and was undect @ 4, 8 and 12 weeks.
@screaming48, it did calm down SEVERAL notches about 2 weeks after I stopped the incivek, just has continued to wane, but NOT fast enough!
@working dog, you know the doc just brought that up recently, I wish I would have been more cognizant of that earlier.  I do drink OJ and spicy foods, I did notice the more spicy exotic stuff (asian, mexican, etc) probably kicked it up a notch.
@Jasmine T, now that it's calming down the roid stuff seems to help and the witch hazel does help cool it too  knock on anal tissue, I have not had an itch attack in 2 weeks.

thanks everyone, what a warm reception.

I have not had anal issues since I stopped the incivek.  I am surprised others still have problems but the meds need to come out somehow I guess.

Have you spoken with your doctor? Maybe you need some suppositories or something to help you heal.  My doc seemed very concerned my burn could develop into something more damaging.

Anybody seen the movie Bad Bosses?  One of the guys in that movie broke into his bosses house and used the bosses toothbrush to scratch his anus.  Pretty sure he was on incivek and feeling the riba rage.

Hope you feel better soon and congratulations for making it this far.
