Thank you to everyone who responded.Great suggestions from the group, as always. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't qualify for any copay assistance with the insurance I have so I'm hoping my co-pays will be similar to what pooh55811 pays. That would be great!
"I have good insurance, but am wondering what these meds will cost out-of-pocket."
Don't think insurance is the issue, sounds like she is just wanting and ideal on the co-pays... The first time I treated my co-pays were also low. If you have good insurance you should not have a problem...... Wishing you the best.
My friend had trouble getting her meds for anything she could afford and found out if she dropped medicare part D, then she could get them free. Is that something that would be worth doing? Can you only opt out certain times of the year? I don't know, but I do know that by doing that she got her meds for free. Garry
My co-pay was $25 a month for Interferon and $5 a month Ribavirin.
Hi i was not so lucky with a getting anything free. My out pocket for 24 weeks for Peg and Rib cost me around 5500.00 for 24 weeks. Peg. said I did not qualify for any help becase I was on medicare. I have a suppliment that I pay for and it pays any thing Medicare does not pay for so I dont have any bills from the Dr"s and labs and hospitals. But drugs in my state if you are on Medicare then you have to buy seperate coverage. What I had did not pay for tier 5 drugs. I found out I had HIP C in late Nov. 2011 and I had time to get a prescription coverage that garanted me not to be out over $5500. 00 for any one year period. You need to talk to your provide. Without drug coverage it is really expensive.Lot people here get it free . Or soem have low co payments. I tryed but did not have that kind luck . I hope you do.
God bless

Nobody can be certain when and if it will be here as nothing has yet to even be filed for approval, keep in mind the cost will be higher with about the same cure rates so just how fast insurance will be willing to pay for this is to be seen......... Best to you.
I did search the web. Turns out there is a generic available that might save some money. Thanks for your suggestion.
Are you absolutely certain that the all-oral treatment will be available in 2014? I've heard that the cost will be out of reach for many patients.
Call your insurance company and ask if the treatment medication is covered.
I had no problem getting that information and found that the cost was just
my co-pay. The drug companies also offer assistance with co- payment or
out of pocket expenses you might have that insurance doesn't cover. I would
start by by calling and asking you insurance company.. so you don't have to
be concerned. Medhelp Hepatitis C community search will produce lots
of information about cost and assistant for the insured and uninsured to obtain treatment. Many insured are pay only 40 dollars a month due to
co- pay assistance.
Best To You
If you have little liver disease, you may want to talk to your gastroenterologist and discuss waiting until first or second quarter of 2014 pending FDA approval when the first all oral treatment for hepatitis C by Gilead will be available for genotype 2/3s.
