EOT. FINALLY

Last solvaldi/RIBA down the hatch.  Now the waiting game.  I'm to have labs drawn tomorrow.  Should  viral load be done or in 4 wks?  Thanks to all who helped this woman make it through. I'm extremely grateful an I'm sure I probably wouldn't have gotten through treatment as easily as I did.  To everyone starting this journey, it's doable....much easier than old treatment....God Bless Everyone      Mary

My Dear Mary
I do remember your first post and wondering to myself, is this women going to make it thru Tx.  You said that you would be starting Ribasphere, and were worried and scared.  I responded to that post thinking, Oh My.
Boy was I wrong.  Even when you double dosed on Sovaldi and in a panic I remember writing back stating, Hey no worries, I did the same thing!  (I really
did).
Well, you made it thru, and you totally proved me wrong.  You did it and I am so proud of you.  Have witnessed you grow thru this experience while giving others hope and inspiration.  Think you are such an asset to this community.
Now your faced with post Tx issues, and the ticking of the clock.  Do believe its better to know if you SVRed sooner then later even if its not the news you hope to hear.  We all have so much emotion invested in Tx, and waiting is perhaps the hardest to bear.
Am so hoping that you make it thru, but as I said to you in your first post, we will all be here for support, should round two be necessary.
Lets hope for the best.
Take care
....Kim

I love the image of us all sitting on the couch in the waiting room!  :).  I'm glad we are waiting together!  And to those just starting... Journey on!  The support and friendships formed here are wonderful... An upside to carrying this stinkin dragon around for all these years!  Seeing dragons die or be severely wounded is a good thing!

Hi, so your about 8wks into treatment.  Looking back, it really did go fast. Although it doesn't feel like that at the time.  I'm the wimp on the forum, an I'm even saying,  it's doable, an will treat again if I have to.  I did an " ostrich in the sand" from the mid 90s until this year due to trying interferon. I was soo against treating but one day I would have been forced to or else suffer the consequences of waiting too long.   I'm glad I did it, thanks all for encouraging me all the way, an like can-do said, I've taken a seat on the "waiting couch". I like that image, all sitting together, chatting, an hearing one by one, " YA BEAT THAT DRAGON".  When it's your turn, we'll make room for you too!!   Take care.  Mary

Hey Susan. Hope you've been doing the happy dance for both of us.  I'm a little under the weather at EOT.  was off line a few days with friend doing a tune-up on this computer.  I feel toxic.  Blah!! Sure wish there was something equal to a colon flush for my liver!!  Lol. Glad to hear your doing so much already to help Mom out.  My goal is to slowly start walking again an get my strength back.  I was looking forward to drink when I was thirsty an not have to push so much fluids, but I guess now is not the time to slow down if I'm wanting to clear these drugs out ASAP.  I finally turned all my alarms off this a.m. When I woke up panicked thinking I missed a dose by hours!!  Lord, I'm going crazy.  Just got back from a doctors appt, an couldn't figure out why the door was locked.  I was only 24 hrs late, thinking it was Fri.  I hope I look back at this experience( after I'm SVR) one day an chuckle at all the crazy things I've done during treatment... We can only hope ..praying for everyone's SVR.   MARY

Mary,

YEAAA!!!   Doesn't it feel great to be done!??  I think so.  We made it!  I am holding great thoughts for you for your being SVR.  As far as your viral load question, you could get as many viral loads as you can get your doctor to prescribe and your insurance will pay for.., unless you want to pay for them out of pocket, which may be expensive.  I am scheduled to have mine drawn at 1 week post treatment.  I had them bump it a week.  Basically, because no matter what, I'm not doing another treatment for at least 3 yrs.  I've just done TOO many treatments and I'm really hoping that neither of us have to face that question.  I am also getting post treatment viral loads on week 12 and if it's detected on week 12.., the 6 mon. post treatment would be canceled.  There would be no point if it's back at week 12 post treatment.  However, if I'm still undetected on one week post, and 12 wk post, I will be scheduled for a 24 wk post viral load.  Some may think that it's unnecessary, but my doctor wants to be extra cautious and I have no argument with that.  Anyhow, I think you'll still be undetected on your week 12 viral load. So far with only be two days off treatment, I don't feel bad at all.  I feel  A LOT more sane and don't have the Riba brain syndrome.., at least this early.  I've heard from several members who had some post treatment issues that hit them like a week post treatment.  So, I'm just taking one day at a time.  Drinking a lot and have done some of that Kale drink business (but I really don't like the taste of it at all and don't know that I'll continue with that after the bottle is gone).  I tried the Kale, cucumber and watermelon thing and even though it's really healthy, I just don't like the taste at all.  Today, I went and got a deep tissue massage. On Wed. and Thurs., I was helping my mom unpacking boxes and moving things around, after her move.  So, haven't had much time to really think about how I'm feeling.  I surely hope you feel better once the drugs get out of you.  Susan400

The question seemed to be... " Should  viral load be done or in 4 wks?"

My answer would be BOTH. And EOT viral test could be very important if treatment does fail and one needs to re-treat and more so if they should try to get into a trial. Unless the rules has changed one could be excluded from a trial if they had not done an EOT test...

I know they say everyone goes UND during treatment but things can change in the Hep C treating game. Besides some people are not totally honest about staying on full dose or taking their meds all the time. Not saying that's the case with you Mmorgan but I have seen it here a lot.

Wishing you the best.

Hi Mary
First, I want to congratulate you on getting through your 12 week treatment.
Boy, that went fast! It seems like yesterday when you posted you were just starting.

When my husband completed treatment after 24 weeks, his doctor wanted him tested 2 weeks post treatment but we decided it was just too soon after such a hard treatment for him to possibly find out the virus was back.
By 4 weeks post treatment, we were ready. Unfortunately, the results were
not what we wanted to hear but we both feel it was better knowing where he stood then wondering for another 8 weeks, only to find out after 12 weeks of waiting that the virus was back.

I agree with Hector.  If you do the test 4 weeks after EOT and it  comes back "undetectable",  that will be a huge step toward SVR.  If it comes back "detected", that would definitely be a blow but then at least you can begin planning your next steps with your doctor.  Of course, this is a personal decision and we will all be here to support you whichever way you go.

I am praying that time will fly and you will soon hear that you have reached SVR12!! That will be so wonderful!
Big hug,
Nan

Should  viral load be done or in 4 wks?
Yes. SVR4 has a very high concordance with SVR12. The vast majority of patients that fail this treatment relapse within the first 4 weeks after stopping treatment (EOT).

Why be walking around wondering if you are cured or not for 12 weeks? When you can know that if undetectable at week 4 you are extremely likely to be cured? If you are undetectable at week 4 you have a greater than 98.5% chance of SVR12! Cured!!!
or to look at it another way, if undetectable at week 4 you ONLY have a 1.5% chance of being detectable at week 12 and not being cured!

"Sofosbuvir has been explored in more than 500 patients, with and without ribavirin (RBV), or with peginterferon (PEG)+RBV in the phase 2 studies PROTON, ELECTRON, ATOMIC, and QUANTUM In these studies SVR4 for SVR12 and SVR24 were >98.5%."

SVR12 is now the standard for SVR because these studies showed that SVR12 has a 99.8% positive predictive value with SVR24.

Best of luck staying undetectable!
Hector

I'll push over and you can sit with us on the waiting bench. ;-) Like was said, relax, try to think good thoughts, pamper yourself...I try to distract myself from waiting for results as much as I can. I was so successful last time that when the nurse called with my last viral load, I was momentarily surprised! Best of luck to you and the whole thread!!!! xx

I didn't have a test until 12 weeks post.

If you cleared on treatment you will be clear on the EOT test without doubt.
The 4 week test while reassuring if still clear doesn't really mean that much if you are still clear. The only one that counts is the 12 week post that test is the make it or break it test.

Good Luck

Yay Mary!  Congratulations on finishing treatment!  Now the wait begins... I had labs one week post treatment and am not having them again until 12 weeks.  Just what my doc and I decided.  I think most people have a 4 week test?  Seems that's what I see on here a lot.  Enjoy not having to set a pill alarm!!
