I'm very careful with doing the interferon injection properly. Properly prepped site, make sure I rotate the site, all that jazz.
With the insulin on the highway, it just gets slammed in through my pants. I don't even look where it's going... Keep my eyes on the road! ;)
I am on the road all day every day for work. So yes, on my way somewhere work related! No putting on makeup or texting... But yes to drinking coffee and eating a muffin. ;)
Just don't tell us you were driving, on your way to work, putting on makeup, texting AND doing the injection. haha.
I still pause a little before the stab.
I was diagnosed with type 1` diabetes when I was in my early 20s. My blood sugar was so high I was hospitalized for several days. They had me on IV insulin but before being discharged, I had to learn how to inject myself.
The nurse gave me a bit of perspective when I said I didn't think I could do it.
"There's a 4-year-old boy in the room next door doing the same thing you are."
Haha!
Don't pinch your skin too hard. Just enough that you've got enough fat to get the needle into. Pinching it too hard may cause some of the medicine to be pushed back out. Take a deep breath and go for it. Leave the needle in there for at least 10 seconds after it's injected.
It doesn't hurt. At least it doesn't have to go in a muscle! I can give myself an injection in the leg while travelling at 120 km/hr on the highway now. ;)
Thanks guys . I am going to try next week with her watching. Talk about panic attacks, my hands were shaking. By the way, I am feeling good today
just a thought, you might want to get her to teach you how to do it. She might not be available each time you need her. It took me a while to get use to it but I did.
Hi AJ!! No worries. Breatheeeeeee :) Just did my 2nd shot tonight too, and actually dripped a tiny amount on the way in, so I most likely didn't do the injection quickly enough. And, bled a little at the extraction. My BFF was on speakerphone, talking me through it and thought it was because I was still pinching my skin. Weird thing is, I was focused on getting the medicine in and then the needle out......I have no idea if I was pinching my skin or not! Either way, I still did it properly. Only thing I forgot was to take Advil prior to the shot and now I am having some pains in various places. I can feel the battle!! Nighty night. Let us know how you are doing in the morning too.
Nervous, how about scared S***less! I hate needles. But I too can and will do this! Without doubt. Hanging in there Aj!!!!!! Lucky for you to have someone in the medical field to help with that part of it.
They say to count to 10 before withdrawing the needle. So I always count to 20. :)
Thank you all, I am new to this and very nervous.
Not a problem - relax....
happens to everyone.....no problem the bleeding was from coming back out thru a small capillary and in order to not have some dribble...leave it in a bit longer
you are good to go....
That has happened to me every time, both bleeding a little and a little med dripping out... I wouldn't worry about it because even though that happens to me every week I have dropped from over 69,000,000 to under 1,000 in four weeks.... I say you're completely fine!!!!
Totally panicked.why did some of the med drip out?
I have bled a little after each of my shots.....not a problem.
Like james and the nurse said, not a problem......... Hang in there.
Best to you
