I'm hopeful that your husband's doctors will help resolve his symptoms and can make him feel better.  Educating yourself is the best first step, and your husband having an advocate supporting him will go a long way. There are certainly lots of potential worries that come along with cirrhosis, but taking preventative measures and keeping a watchful eye is important.  If nothing else, your husband should know the basics to start -- and if he can be considered for transplant, learning as much as he can will be in his (and your) best interests too!  ~eureka
PS:  With varices, it's important he stay on beta-blockers to help prevent bleeds, especially in the interim while waiting for banding.

Sorry to hear about your husband's ascites and varices. Luckily he is doing what he can to manage these symptoms of decompensated cirrhosis. Diuretics do work. They could take a week or two to have full affect, but it will make your husband much more comfortable.

Any news about getting on a transplant list?

Best of luck.
Keep up informed as to any updates.
