Very worried again

Hello dear friends. It has been a long time since I didn't visit this forum. I was UND post 12 weeks EOT after treating with Peg+Rib+Sovaldi for 12 weeks. However, for the last two weeks I have poor appetite again, slight swelling in hands, and some itches at night. Yesterday I took a walk and I got the fatigue I had before when I had the virus. I will take my 24 weeks EOT test after 3 weeks and I am suspecting I have relapsed.

Everywhere I read they say that SVR12 is considered cure, but I have the feeling that's not the true from what I am feeling. My BMI is 31 and I am struggling to lose weight which is not easy as well. I am almost sure the virus came back and I am relating it to anything, starting from being obese to finishing a bottle of vodka to celebrate my SVR12!!!

Please help me understand, have I probably relapsed according to the symptoms I am having now? What are the chances of relapse after SVR12? Can I try Harvoni after I have relapsed with Sovaldi based treatment?

Probably at 1 year EOT, now like I am about to do. It really takes a long time to feel better. I still feel stiffness in my liver area, I think it must take a long time for the liver to repair itself.

No measurable signal!!! No HCV RNA detected!!! Thank you very much dear friends for supporting me through all of my journey of battling this disease!!! I am so relieved now. Should I take another test after a couple of weeks again because I took this 3 weeks earlier than 6 months EOT?

Dear Friends,

I have taken PCR test and other blood tests as well including ALT/AST. For the PCR test they said it will take a week. ALT is 46 and AST is 28, which is in normal range. Thank you again for your support and will update as soon as my PCR test results are out.

I was on the same treatment.  I had to have about 6 mon. of clearing out of the meds before things seemed to be getting semi-sort of back to normal.  With that said, you were clear at week 12, which is a good sign.  I didn't have that result at week 12, I had relapsed.  But, w/o you having the next viral load test results in your hand to know what you're dealing with A.) end of treatment clear out 'blahs'..., or B.) relapse..., there's really no way to be secure and relaxed about things.  I know..., how it is.  Been there, done that, with the whole anxiety about it all.  My feeling is that you're still undetected though.  Another thing is my thyroid decided to to it's whacking out TSH elevated, etc., AFTER treatment.  It was fine prior to TX and all during TX.  But, since I went through a similar temporary 'thyroiditis' i the past..., and everything returned to normal after a month or two on thryoid meds, I'm going with that line of thought this time, too.  With my doctor's knowledge..., I've been able to gradually lower the thyroid meds and start to wean off of them.  Maybe when you get your 6 mon. post TX labs (if your doctor didn't already order it), you could ask them to do a TSH blood test to make sure your thyroid is still acting normally??  Hopefully, everything will turn out fine and in a few more months, you'll feel better.  Also, I agree, take it easy with the alcohol.  Celebrate with a massage instead??

Considering how worried you feel I think it would bring you peace of mind. SVR24? Who's counting. Get one now and get one then if it makes you feel better. Everyone needs to get tested at 1 year EOT anyway.

Just take it at 24 weeks.  Do you want to create more opportunity for more unnecessary worry.   Example next month or so "I feel like I relapsed since I had my VL at 21 weeks should I have another one"

In my non medical opinion the chance of relapse is extremely unlikely but your unnecessary worry can cause or exacerbate medical conditions.  Yesterday I had an appointment with my gastroenterologist.  He feels that healh forums can be a problem for certain patients, especially if they are prone to fear and anxiety about health.  Others with similar worries can the contribute and build it up.  Note. Not referring to most members who try to help in a reasonable manner.

Do you think it's ok to take the PCR test now not waiting for the 24 weeks EOT?

To celebrate I find an activity I enjoy and celebrate life!

Yup 99% chance you are fine anxietiy can cause symptoms all on it's own.

Personaly the only symptom I have ever noticed without testing is being tired. With testing I was found to have esophageal varicies but would never have know except for an upper endoscopy.

That is why hep c is often called a silent disease many have little to no noticible symptoms until developing cirrhosis and advanced liver disease and th esymptoms are from the liver damage.

I am sure you are fine but just to ease you mind that much sooner sure ask you doctor if you can get teasted a few weeks early.

Good Luck

Doni.  It's doubtful that you've relapsed.  It's likely 1 of 2 things.  Either you were partying a little to much with excessive drinking and eating and your liver is not happy.....Or your worrying yourself sick that you may have relapsed and your bogged down with stress.
Perhaps give yourself a break and try and not make yourself crazy.  I do believe that going thru interferon is a tuff road to walk.  I can almost equate the journey to one of PTSD.  When you get your results back saying that you are "cured", go easy on yourself.  The battle is over and you've won the war.
Best to you

Aw, your gonna be fine. That being said, I must agree with all above posters.. I was pulled in by Glen's & Jimmy's & KoKo's & your honest post!!

IMHO, alcohol will kill us..... and now, perhaps is  your chance to begin a new
CELEBRATION  habit....

Mine is CHOCOLATE, sure you can think of others :-)

Stress & worry, I know, can also drag your body down, so for peace of mind get an earlier PCR.

Wishing you discernment
Wishing you health
Wishing you blessings~ Randy

There are many possible reasons for the symptoms you describe but the odds that you relapsed are less than one percent.  Have you reported them to your primary doctor?

What is the total number of standard alcohol drinks you have had in the past 3 weeks?  Have you had more than 2 on any day?

I read your prior posts where you expresed similar relapsed beliefs after you finished treatment.

Excessive worring can have an adverse effect on a person's health.  A mental health professional may be able to help.

Best wishes for resolving your concerns.

That's the question that I don't have fatty lever and no other liver issues. Anyways I will see if I can have the labs right away before 3 weeks.

Try not to worry and try not to drink. Call and see if you can do labs now instead of waiting 3 weeks. What if any liver disease do you have? The symptoms you are having could be from the liver issues and other damage done by the virus.

I understand Doni,I also used to enjoy a scotch or two nightly but with our condition we might as well drink cyanide cause the booze will certainly kill us.Have an O'douls to celebrate, seems to be the best tasting of the alchohol free beers.

There is no reason to get upset.Just relax, your probably getting yourself all worked up for nothing.Think positive and wait for your next bloodwork results and you will see you got upset for no reason. But you must pour any vodka you have in the house down the drain.Alchohol is our worst enemy and it will defeat all these great new drugs that are now available to us.If you feel the alchohol is a problem get immediate help and go to a meeting.
