Vitamin D deficiency?

I just learned that I have a prescription for vitamin D that I need to pick up at the pharmacy.  I recently took blood tests and that's what my PCP decided, all I knew starting out was I asked for a script for energy level and my thyroid level was tested.  Is vitamin D deficiency common with HepC patients?

My level is 50,000 1x week until further notice.  I wanted to ask if anyone who is vitamin D deficient has difficulties with metabolism of drugs/supplements, specifically milk thistle or any combination of antioxidants?  I have had 2 instances when I took my regular amino acids along with MT and a whole rash of other stuff like Ginko Biloba and had problems with the runs, gas, cramps and nausea for a couple to a few days.  Anyone have similar incidents that may be related?  Just wondering as I think I've had telltale signs but didn't know what it was or I thought it was related to something else and it still may be, IDK.

I wonder if it's more common with heppers who have tried tx as opposed to those who have not?  Anyone know?

If you live in a climate that allows you to get some sun during this time of year, that's also an excellent way to get Vit D. Just sit on the back porch for 10 minutes a day, or take a brief walk.

And yes, Vit D def is fairly common among Heppers. That test was on the first panel my hepatologist did on my very first visit, along with several other vitamin level tests.

Recent word seems to be so. At least one thread discussed that recently:

Also lots of data coming out about vitamin D helping treatment response:

A community archive search using 'vit d deficiency' will bring up some interesting discussions on the topic.  Good luck on your V.D. test ;). ~eureka

WoW. I was just discussing vit D with my vet, he said a lack of vitimin d, could also effect your calcium in your bones...I have heard from a few, on lack of vit D, durring or after Tx. You might also look into B-12 shots. I had a OLD friend, we went to his doc, he said he was sick n tired of being tired! The B-12 shots made him go,go go. He could watch a whole movie.and walk some.  We give the animals B-12 shots, to give them energy, appitite, and get em up off the ground..I dont know alot about vitimins, but nurses have told me the old man could take all the B12 pills and not get the same results of a b12 shot.. I will look forward to following your post. To learn more about lack of vitimins. Maybe those folks who posted before, will see this.

I don't know how common it is with HCV but mine tested low (twice) so I am now on 50,000 IU's per week for 4 weeks and then a retest. My thyroid also went hypo after staying normal for the past two years (72 on tx). I'm hoping one or the other will help with the muscle aches that have surfaced since Tx.

What was your Vit. D level? Mine was 20.3 then up to 23 after many weeks on 2000 IU's per day. Not much improvement.......
