I tried to sterilize my earrings in a bleach and water ratio.  I think I left them in to long because they were all ruined.  I now have one pair.  Lost all the earrings- the good, the bad and the ugly! Please don't think I have unlimited resources!   I certainly don't!  I did replace my clippers and razors... I use the Soleil  razors and switch out every other week.  I sure don't need to shave like I used to!  Replaced the toothbrush every couple days.  Bought a bunch 2 for a dollar at The Dollar Tree.  I figured they could be cheap since they'd only be used a few times.  :)

Hang in there, girl!  You are on the home stretch!  Happy September!

Personally, I think buying 80 toothbrushes is obsessive.  It's really unnecessary to change them every day.  Even according to the drug company (the Gilead representative I spoke with), every 2 wks is more the sufficient on the changing of toothbrushes.  That is because the meds are still in you as you are changing the toothbrushes.  I didn't throw out my earrings, or clippers, or tweezers.  I sterilized them.  I don't have the money to replace all that stuff as I don't work and have limited resources.  I did replace my toothbrushes every 2 weeks, as it was the recommendation.  Since, I rarely need to shave anymore (due to lack of hair growth-it just stopped), I haven't had to buy a bunch of razors.  I did throw out the one I had and now, whenever I do need to shave, I just use a disposable, one time and throw it out afterwards.  Additionally, in order to cut down on gums bleeding, I've been very 'obsessive' on my oral hygiene.  Like flossing in the morning and flossing at night, every day.  Twice a day.  And I swish for about 20 sec. with some diluted Listerine and then, spit it out and rinse again.  On the advice of my dentist, I regularly chew sugarless gum because it's good for the flora of the mouth.  There's some kind of property in it that helps to make the chemistry in your mouth less susceptible to decay.  Susan400

Couldn't you get the same result from sterilizing your toothbrush once a day?

And wouldn't one have to have bleeding gums to reinfect yourself?

Are there any documented cases that someone was reinfected with a toothbrush?

This is a confusing issue for me

If you have gums that bleed you may harbor the virus on your toothbrush and then reintroduce the virus back into your body the next time you brush through the gums. I haven't done tx yet but have given thought to a new brush a day also. :)

Hi there,
Regarding the toothbrush changes.  Many of us changed toothbrushes frequently to avoid the small, possibility of reinfecting ourselves from old toothbrushes.  I also replaced razors, nail clippers and earrings.  I'm taking no chances.
I'm post treatment 3 weeks and was undetected at the end of treatment.  Praying and hoping I stay that way.  That said, I will keep up the fight as long as I can if need be.

Congratulations on your wonderful results. Please tell me. Why all the toothbrush changes? What is the benefit? I just received my 4 week blood work results and my VL is <15 neg. Am stepping into 7th week of sov/riba tx.and have not changed my toothbrushes since starting treatment. My doctor has not mentioned anything about changing toothbrushes on regular basis.

Oy. I am sorry for the miscommunication. I calculated your treatment start date based on your other posts.

I did not check the box where it adds the end date (today) so it came up 24 instead of 25.

But the main thing is I misunderstood that you did test and you are UND at 4 weeks ( Yay!!).  Anyhow if you are UND at 12 weeks it will mean eRVR (extended Rapid Virologic Response [eRVR]) which is a very good indication for you.

If buying that many toothbrushes eases your mind, go for it.  But, it's not in any way related to the side effects of the meds.  You could buy 80 toothbrushes for almost every day of treatment and still have side effects.  I followed the drug companies recommendation of replacing your toothbrushes every 2 wks.  I still became undetected at week 4, again at week 8.  And I've still have had alot of side effects.  Susan400

:) I've thought of doing the same with the toothbrushes.
Congrats on staying undetected and here's to the hope you will remain so.

If your first day of treatment was Thursday, 24 July 2014 then that means as of today Friday, 29 August 2014 it has been:

37 days
or
5 weeks (rounded down)

Might I ask the reason it is not certain you are UND?

It is crucial you have your HCV PCR labs when you are supposed to with the meds you are taking. Also (sorry in advance if this sounds preachy since I said this in the other post) it is equally important you have copies of all your labs.

Last if you are UND (and I hope and pray that you are) then you would not be able to reinfect yourself because the virus is gone. Not that it works that way anyway but I am just saying.

I hope you keep posting your progress.

B:  Congratulations on the 4 week UNDETECTABLE!  Wonderful.  But, please remember, this is only the first of a number of steps!

Keep on doing whatever you are doing, as it seems to be working for you!  It is wonderful that you are not having many side effects.  That, too, is an individual thing, but also depends on age (easier on younger people), medical conditions (having to other problems can make it easier for your body to handle to meds), etc.

I love the image of running miles because of happiness - but seriously, keep exercising, but don't over do.

Warriors, All!  On to SVR!!!!   Pat
