Herpes?

A month ago I had protected sex with a girl. The day after she told me she had HSV-2. Given the heavy petting before the intercourse, the condom probably didnt help much. She told me her OB's were usually severe but had no visible symtpoms. 2 days later, I was sick with fever, but with symptoms such as head congestion and a runny nose which probably point to infleunza?

3 Weeks later, my current gf got a blister in her pubic region, and a day after i developed a itchy/tingling/burning redness to my scrotum. I've had my IgG specific blood tests, but its too early in all likelihood. She is awaiting results from a swab test.

I went to the Dr's with my scrotal symptoms and explained the exposure and timetline. He ensured me it was dermatitis, prescribing hydrocortisone cream. This cream has escalated the symptoms and redness, but as such no lesions are present yet. The only other thing worth consideration is I had diarrhea the night before the scrotum irritation began, and constant wiping leading to blood on the paper and iritation from the difficulties of cleaning.

Should I abstain from sex until a 3 month IgG test, given the circumstances? Or am I missing something?

No not as yet. Its been hard even finding a place that will do blood tests, the dr that did this one wasn't even sure if it existed till he called the lab...

I'm sorry but the blood test you had done is not one that is in wide use in the US so I really can't help you much with your results as far as accuracy.

most adults in china will test + for hsv1 and typically it's oral.

Still way too early for hsv2 testing for you from either of your latest partners.

any results back for your current partner yet?

No shes not on daily therapy. The Dr told me herpes is usually small patchy rashes, whereas my scrotum redness is the entire scrotum and underside of penis, with sensitive skin in my thighs where the scrotum touches. Its not bright red, contracted and a little scaly (from the hydrocortisone). Sound like anything else? It doesn't itch or tingle so much now.

Will get results and see doc again at end of this week.

The symptoms you had could have been just the flu.  We get bumps in our pubic regions all the time.  Wait for the results on your gf's type specific test.

The encounter was low risk given she wasn't having an outbreak.  The fact shes knows her outbreaks gives you a less risk to this.  Do you know if your previous partner is on daily therapy?

Chances are you have a fungal infection.

I'd certainly abstain from sex at this point until you both have genital areas that are back to normal. Hopefully you'll have better answers soon as to who has what.

if the topical steroid is making your genital area worse, call the provider who prescribed it, let them know and see what else they suggest.

runny nose isn't part of the flu like symptoms we refer to with genital herpes infections.
