When you have HSV-1 in one location of the body, you are immune or at the very least, highly, highly resistant to acquiring another HSV-1 infection in a different location. For instance, since you and your boyfriend have been getting cold sores for a long time, you won't contract it genitally in the future.
It's never a good idea to perform oral sex on your boyfriend or vice versa when you have a cold sore present, not because it'll lead to transmission, but more so because it could possibly infect your cold sore with other bacteria and interfere with the healing of the cold sore. The viral load is higher when cold sores are present, so to be overly cautious especially during a pregnancy, you probably should avoid receiving oral sex when your boyfriend has a cold sore is present. To conclude, you really have no reason to worry.

since you are pregnant, always best to err on the side of caution and get this checked out too.
have you and your partner both had hsv2 igg blood testing? since you are pregnant, knowing both of your status for hsv2 is also important for your unborn child too. You both already know you have hsv1 orally so just seeking out the hsv2 igg blood testing is fine.

Thanks so much for the responses. Makes me feel a little better to see that it is unlikely that both my partner and I will get hsv1 genital seeing we both already have it oral.
Do either of you know if there is any risk to my unborn baby if I did happen to contract hsv1 genital from all of this? Will it cause any complications seeing as though I've never had it genitally? Or is it only something to worry about once I get closer to my due date seeing as though it can pass to the baby during delivery?
Your chances of getting struck by lightning are much greater than getting HSV-1 genitally in the way you describe. Couples don't ping pong their shared HSV-1 infections to different areas of each others body. So lets say, you did give him it genitally (highly, highly unlikely) he wouldn't then give it to back to you genitally.
If you're that concerned and since you are pregnant, you can get it checked out to ease your mind. This sounds more like irritation caused by rough sex than anything herpes related.
So I finally built up the courage and just went to the dr I figure it's the only way I can put my mind at ease about all of this lol. I had an examination and so far no signs of hsv1. They also took a vaginal swab a urine sample and blood aswel. I'm just getting tested for everything! So now I just have to wait and hope for good news :) fingers crossed! Thankyou for taking the time to respond to my question helped me to calm down about it all heaps.
You're very welcome. Don't be alarmed if your blood test comes back positive for HSV-1 because it will. Your blood test results will be positive for HSV-1 due to you having cold sores like many adults and the same applies for your boyfriend.
get your partner tested for hsv2 too.
Will the vaginal swab results be able to see if I have the genital hsv1
Sorry to be so annoying but as of today it's now 11 days since my boyfriends initial exposure to the hsv1 from oral sex. He still shows no symptoms at all. What are the chances that after we had the unprotected sex 4 days later he could having been viral shedding without symptoms. Could this be possible so soon after exposure? We have not had any sexual contact since that time 7 days ago now, I still feel like sometimes my vagina may be itchy or just feel weird lol but I tend to obsess over things I have OCD so I don't know if it's actual symptoms or me just being hyper aware of everything because I'm worried. I'm also worried because from what I've read people who get hsv1 genital after already being exposed to the virus oral can sometimes only get very minimal to no symptoms at all. If I were to have it genital would I have experienced other symptoms by now? Sorry for so many questions
Still stressing a little grr. A few more questions. It's now been 11 days since my boyfriends exposure to the hsv1 through oral sex. He still shows no signs or symptoms of infection. I was wondering what are the chances that he could have been viral shedding with no symptoms the 4 days later when we had sex, would this be possible so soon after exposure? Im still not sure if my vagina is itchy or irritated or if it's just me be hyper aware of it because I tend to obsess about things like this! I've been checking myself everyday and so far no sores or major changes down there. I guess I'm freaking out a little because from things I've read people who already have hsv1 oral who get it genital can have little to no symptoms coz of the anti bodies we already have. Do you think i would be showing more symptoms each day if I were infected? I just don't want it to get missed if I do have it genital now because I've read scary things can happen if it were to pass on to the baby . Sorry to be so annoying
Sorry I didn't realise the first post worked that's why I wrote another one.. Oops
Sorry to be annoying but any advice please
all you can do at this point is wait for your test results to come back to hopefully get a better idea of what is going on
You're obsessing over something you most likely don't have. We rarely if ever see cases where people get HSV-2 orally after having it genitally and the same applies with HSV-1. According to the one of the top herpes experts in the nation, Terri Warren, she has seen one possible case of this, and she still had her doubts and was uncertain that it even occurred.
The antibodies wouldn't reduce your symptoms; it doesn't work that way. Instead, it would be a reinfection or superinfection, which is rarely seen (being infected with two different strains of the same type). Genital HSV-1 is usually more pronounced than HSV-2 in regards to the primary outbreak, so you don't have it and shouldn't worry. As stated above, couples don't ping pong their shared HSV-1 infections to other parts of each other's bodies, so if your boyfriend somehow got it on his genitals despite having an oral HSV-1 infection (highly, highly unlikely) and then had sex with you despite having no symptoms, then you wouldn't get it. Here are some links to the top leading experts on STDs and Herpes regarding your situation, since it seems like you need some qualified expert referral right now, and this isn't cutting it.
