Anyone else get peeved with side bar ads?

Do you find when you open a page and you are in deep concentration, a sidebar ad or an above the site's head page which has moving (animated) advertisements, totally throws your concentration?
You know the ones I mean...flashing stars...coloured text that goes from red to green then back to green or yellow or what ever! Those ones that say . You are the 100,000,000th visitor no joke you have won! type ones.

Yes, they do support the free websites, and i have to agree they are there to allow us all not to have to fork out big bucks. BUT...my point is the flashing obnoxious in your face screaming at you type ones really need to realise they are actually off putting not tempting to try their site.
I tried doing the wikipedia block link but it didn't work for me.
Most of the browsers support ad-block pop ups not true ad blockers. Which is a shame.
Don't worry, many of my posts have been deleted to and they were quite tame and decent!

I get annoyed with them because they took down my status because I was offering my Mary Kay products at a discount. If they can have them, we should be able to too!

Well, it was very nicely explained to me that these ads allow us all to be here for free so I'm not too upset about them anymore :)

I wish there was an "other" or "I block the ads so I don't see them and not bothered anymore" button to this poll.

Firefox + adblock plus or
Opera + their built in adblocker feature (especially works if you want to see most ads but annoyed by a specific ad.)

I think pretty much any web browser besides internet explorer has some kind of ad blocking feature. That said I especially don't like java script ads (ones that block the web page) animated, or flashing. But rather than complain, I prefer to block them.

The ad that bothers me the most is the one at the top of the screen w/ the side view of a woman's gut hanging out.  It reminds me of my belly!!  =(  Dang it, mine used to be flat!!!!  GRRRRRRR!

When a website has these annoying flashy ads anywhere on the page, I stop what I'm doing and go to a different site.  Anyone with chronic migraines would understand what I'm talking about.  Flashing at me makes me sick--literally, so I refuse to support sites that have these flashy ads.  If they must have ads, fine, they must have ads, but the flashy ones are worse than distracting to me, they're nauseating--and, I mean literally.

A very nice person sent me a wonderful piece of info on how to block them! Basically just go to the browser you use, I use Mozilla Firefox and they have an add-on plug-in to block the horrid ads!  Hooray!!!

I hate those and the ones that make noise when ever you move your mouse near them. When I am searching for something at work and it is quiet and then all of a sudden you here laughter or someother noise from those advertisements. But I can normally block them out and continue on.

Hey margypops, yes, I meant those annoying advertisements! The kind where if you happen to move your cursor anywhere near them they have a huge ad pop up over half the page you are reading. Then there are those CONGRATULATIONS YOU ARE THE BAZILLIONTH WINNER THIS IS NO JOKE! Aaaaaaaaargh!!! Drives me nuts!
There's one on a different site to this I go to regularly and it has at the very top of the page a yellow bar with a rolling piece of cereal. Man! I get so distracted when I am reading in depth stuff!
The medhelp side bar thing is great though! Good way of seeing what people have posted in journals etc. At least they don't have fluro flashing stars!
