Very intermittent spotting, while on a HRT patch - is it normal?

I am in peri-menopause, using the Vivelle Dot, and regulating my periods to come every two months with Norethindrone.  However, I am spotting very, very lightly, a day here and there, with no pattern at all, and never lasting more than essentially a few hours, but happening about 4 days out of every 10, but not necessarily in a row.  Is it okay to be spotting lightly, now and then, fairly frequently, while in peri-menopause?  When in peri-menopause, how do I know what is "normal" and what is pathological?
