prolonged bleeding

55 yr old having long, long periods.  Sometimes they are light pink, other times very heavy red.  small clots sometimes.  (pea size) - I had hot flashes and night sweats over the summer when I was period free for 2.5 months.  Since the end of August, almost continuous periods w/ NO hot flashes/night sweats.  No cramping, some bad mood swings prior to the "big red ones" . .   I have heard that some women bleed for months and then it's over.  I hope I'm there.  Is using progesterone cream helpful?  Iron?  I do both, tho not daily like i should.........

Thanks.  Going nuts over this.
