I learn so much from reading other's posts. I don't need an electric wheelchair, but if I ever do, I won't be so overwhelmed. I have also wondered what I would do if I ever needed one to get out of the house and transporting my chair if I wanted to keep the car I had.
My sister has an electric wheelchair, but she bought a new Honda minivan (I think it's an Odysee) and had a wheelchair lift put in it. It lifts her and her chair. She can even drive the van herself. However, the van is an expense. She did tell me that she got a good deal on it, though.
I think these are fabulous tips! I'm so glad to hear you have your new chair and will be able to get out and about. You will feel so much freer when everything gets figured out. The green color sounds cool, too!
Best wishes,
Deb
Thanks Lulu, I hadn't thought of that...

Be sure to reach out to the MS orgs - NMSS, MSF, and MSAA and ask for financial assistance with this one. If you have to buy a different vehicle and the hitch, one of them MIGHT be willing to help with the hitch cost. Good luck in getting this figured out - being able to get out and go will be great for your spirits.
Yep, my husband checked around again. I need a class 2 receiver hitch, and there is no way to do it with this particular car. I may have to sell it. It makes me nervous though. This is a pretty good car, even though it's nearly 10 years old. It still looks pretty good too. I would have to buy used, and you just never know...
Anyone in the Seattle area have a good used van or suv?
Tammy
I never thought of giving it a name... Any suggestions?
according to uhaul you can get a class I hitch for your car for about $225.

Im glad you received your electric wheelchair yesterday and as LuLu said, you will be getting back out which is a good thing. Fall is upon us (suppose it depends on where you live), cooler (yay) and hopefully you will resolve the issue of transporting your wheelchair.
Again, lots of good ideas of where to begin to accommodate your wheelchair transportation.
(Hugs to you)

oops - he just said also he doesn't think you can use a class 2 hitch, a class 1 might be the maxiumum.
lots of good ideas of where to begin. I am so happy this arrived and you can get back out. I just asked my husband, my auto expert, what he thought the towing capacity might be, and he said about 1,500 pounds. I hope you can figure a way to haul it with your car....
good luck,
L
PS have you given it a name, yet?
look in the side of the drivers door it will tell you your max towing..
ask the company who delivered it or go to the scooter store. They will tell you if your vehicle will hold this. or you can get a very small trailer to pull behind your vehicle that will hold it..
Hello,
Have you checked youtube? You can find just about every kind of car modification on there.... Maybe you can find something helpful for your situation there. I hope that you find a solution to your situation one way or the other.
Best,
Tom
