Anyone Know Where I Can Find Normal SSEP Values

Does anyone know where I can find the normal values for a SSEP so I can compare my results or does anyone know the normal values? I'm especially interested in the lower limb values because that's what I had.

I also went to to my neuros appointment today..things are changing and wondered if anyone has any experience with this. My reflexes have changed..they went from hyper to hypo/absent in my legs.

The SSEP revealed slowing in c-spine. He said that according to my MRIs, structurally my spine is very good and there is no reason as to why there would be this slowing. There was also no lesions that showed..but he also said they could be so small they can't be seen yet. I also had my MRI on a 1.5T, but I'm not sure if I'm capable of getting on a 3T because of my vena cava filter. Some radiologist just don't want to take a chance with my filter even though the manufacturer of my filter said that it was capable of being placed on a 3T but nothing higher.

I'm getting a little worried over these changes in my body recently. Reflex changes, positive SSEP..but the doctors are still no closer to finding the answers as they were several years ago. MS is still on the table..but I'm wondering how much longer my stay in limboland will be before the answers will be reveiled & how many more changes are going to occur before something shows itself.

Pam- I imagine if the EMG is normal, it would point more towards a disease that attacks the CNS..and that includes MS. Thank you..I hope for some answers too.

Daisy Girl- I think so too. That's how I was reading it as well. Not sure of the other things, but those seem like the important points. Thanks for the help. I couldn't find that latency info anywhere on the net...you were a lifesaver.

I believe the N45, P37 is the wave.

Normal for the N45 is 32-46 milliseconds for the impulse to get to the brain. Yours is 49 and 47.8 so you have an increased latency (increased time).

Normal for the P37 is 38-41 milliseconds. Yours is 40; so within the normal range.

I wish I had a clue what all of that meant.

So if the EMG is still good, does that mean it is pointing more towards ms, or are you talking about something else?

I wish you well and hope for answers for you.

Hi Pam,

My results have a lot of different values & points on them. The neuros office gave me a copy of the results but not an explanation. (PF, LP, TP, CP, P37, N45, PF-P37, PF-LP, LP-P37, LP-CP, CP-P37). The only hits that have any meaning to me is P37 & N45. If anyone can explain I would appreciate it.

The Left N45 (ms) 49 ..Right N45 (ms) 47.8...Left P37 (ms) 40... Right P37 (ms) 40  I'm guess the N45 is the latency? I just read that it's considered a latency if it's more than 2.5 or 3 standard deviations above the mean of the normative data (depending on the laboratory's conventions).

My neuro said that the latency occurred in the cervical area. He wants to run another EMG because of the loss of reflexes to check peripheral nerves. My last EMG was perfect, so we'll see how this one is. If it's good..it could mean bad news for me.

Hi, this is great info. thanks for bringing this up.

I will be having my Evoked potential tests done next month and now I will have a reference to go by.

I dont really understand it, LOL but good reference.
What were your results?

Oh, I forgot to add..This test is good to have if you suffer from a lot of paresthesia (numbness, pin & needles, etc..) because it shows what happen to that signal as it goes from the peripheral nervous system to the central nervous system. It can reveal silent lesions as well.

The SSEP( Somatosensory evoked potential) is the one where they send a electric signal from the body to the brain. The response is recorded through the scalp (They have wires hooked in certain places on the scalp just like an EEG).

Daisy Girl- Thank you Daisy Girl! That's exactly what I needed.

Addi- My neuro ordered my SSEP. Back in 2007 my SSEP was normal, but now it showed slowing. I also had hyper reflexes in my left side and now my left leg is absent and the right leg is hypo. It very strange.

I would see about getting an SSEP if you didn't have one yet.

The Latency MSEC of the lower extremities:

N33-P38  Normal Range is 28-41
P38-N46  Normal Range is 32-46
P46-P58  Normal Range is 39-54

I copied this from my SSEP results....hope it is what you are looking for.

I don't know the values that you are looking for, but I am very interested in the fact that you lost your reflexes.  I am undiagnosed, too, and have lost my reflexes also.  I haven't had any EP's done yet, but I think I am going to ask for it.

Which doctor do I address as far as getting EP's done?
