Unexplained symptom

Can anyone relate to this? It's one of those mystery symptom that I can't figure out.

When you slowly clench and unclench your fingers do they ratchet like a ratcheting wrench?

It's not necessarily a joint-thing...more tendon/muscle. There is no clicking or locking or anything like that.

It happens when I flex my wrist up and down too. And it's only on my affected side, the side that has all the other symptoms.

Anyone? (I tried a search and came up with nothing. And Google just serves up actual wrenches and Parkinson's sites. I don't think it's Parkinson's!) :)

Sierra,

Sorry I was a part of Ferris's unresponsive economics class! I hadn't responded because it's not something I've personally experienced, though it doesn't sound fun at all! Frustrating when google gets all ornery like that. Agreed, I don't think its Parkinson's or wrenches you're dealing with. But you knew that already!

For the puntastic shout-out to classic film, I think Kyle gets extra credit from Mr Stein.

I get the same thing in my hip area.  If I tighten my glutes or the back of my thigh.  I assume it's due to spasticity?  Or clonus?  It's in my "bad" leg, so I've just guessed that it's related.  Not diagnosed yet, but do have definite issues with spasticity, clonus, positive babinski relfex, etc, etc in that same leg, just still on the MS work up.

Kyle,

Ha! I guess I have!

I'm thinking it has something to do with spasticity or tightness of my wrist and hand. You know, like when you're stretching a piece of tight elastic? And it seems ratchety because it shakes. It doesn't actually click and its not related to the joints so much as the tendons or muscles, I think.

That's my best guess anyway.

It's not something I notice or think about often because the fingers of that hand are always curled to some degree. But when I try to flex them or stretch them I see it.

No biggie. Just curious! :)

Hi Sierra (with apologies to Raoul Walsh)

I guess you have an 'original' symptom. It seems you've stumped the panel!  Do you feel a physical click? that's what I think of when I think of ratcheting. Or is it more a feeling of tightness?

Kyle
