two stupid questions

I was dx'd in Aug 07.

My first question is....I have had eye twiching for a couple of weeks now, comes and goes (alot) in the same place, last from minutes to an hour at a time- is this MS related or just that nerve spasing out? never had it before

2nd question is I am on Copaxone, I recently started meds for MS and have been faithful for the last 3 weeks. Any how, does Copaxone affect birth control? I called shared solutions and they didnt have the answer. I am on Mirana birthcontrol and it can make you have no period which I wasnt for awhile now until this month of course since I have been on copaxone. Does it weaken it? Mirana is 99.9 effective and I dont want it to be lessened I have 4 kids and really dont want any more.

Thanks

As usual, I'm the odd man out.  My LEFT eye twitches, mostly the lower lid.  No explanation at all.  Really, I don't know if it actually twitches or just feels like it's twitching.  I'm not particularly concerned about the birth control question.

Thank you all for your response. After a week and a half, the twitching is gone a the moment. Yeah! I will try to remember to ask my MS Specialist neuro dr and see what he says.

now for the interaction of Copaxone with other meds, the pharmicists at Right Source said that in studies it doesnt show interaction with any meds. So i just had an odd month I guess........If I get pregnant than they will have a new study on thier hands or Minerva will.

LuLu54 Thanks for remembering and asking Bayer that question. You are a good, careing leader.

You are all supportive, Thanks again!

Enjoy your day!!!!!

The Bayer rep recommends calling both Copaxone and Minerva and get their response.  It was out of her field of expertise.

Hi there,
I have the same problem with the eye twitching but you can physically see it twitch and it's right around the whole eye and when it happens it distorts my vision, like a camera shutter going click, I have found it very disturbing, this has gone on now for 4 weeks with some numbness around the eye as well.

I put my problem down to migraine, as you can get eye twitching with migraine but I think you can with MS as well. I would ask your neuro, I plan to ask mine when I see him next but that's a while away.  I went back on my Gabapentin and that seemed to stop the twitching but I still have the numb feeling around my eye as a permanant thing. Sorry I am not really answering your question but you are not alone with this.

I do not have a diagnosis of MS and was told it was unlikely that I will develop MS but I do get migraines and I have been told I have Transverse Myelitis but having said this my neuro is still planning to MRI my brain again.

Cheers,
Udkas.

Well, "normally" my boss, ophthalmologist would say eyelid twitching is due to stress. I have heard this answer for the last 20 years, since I have worked in ophthalmology.

HOWEVER, personally I didn't have any experience with eye twitching myself, until very recently.

I suffer from HORRIBLE trigeminal neuralgia. Have had it for a few years intermittently, but as of the last 1-2 years, it has been coming more frequently and becoming more painful.

My last 2 episodes of TN, were the worst I ever had. Had to had IV steroids for 1 episode. During the most painful time of it, my right lower lid was twitching. My right side it the side affected. When the pain gets better, the twitch stops.

SO, I now think a lid twitch can come from other things. Apparently, another term for TN is Tic douloureux . Twitching is one of the symptoms.

Live and learn...

my right eye twitches at time for day on end...then it will stop for awhile.  Not sure why this happens.  I do have more problems with my right eye then left.. sometimes it aches behind the eye ball and feel like it wonders.. then I'll go for weeks with it alright?

I always forget to mention it to the Neuro.. I should write it down .

take it easy.

I had a constant eye twitch from Dec to may of this year.  I had a spin out in my car and the Drs all said "Yes an accident like that can definately cause an eye twitch" - this all happened before dx and in the beginning of my dx with my first neuro.
My second neuro had me start a steriod infusion right away for symptoms of a relapse, and the eye twitch went away.
Then this summer I started having a twitch in the other eye and in my jaw area I had twitching and itching. Again with the steriod treatment and again the problem stopped.
So is your eye twitch MS related??? Possibly, I think mine are.
I can't answer your second question, but hopefully you got that figured out.

to doublevision1- It feels like the bottom eye lid of just my right eye. You cant see it twitch, I do have pain in once in while but not right now. It is just wierd. My boss says it is the "corporate twitch" whatever that means. I have had twictching before but it seems to be more active and more consistant. No affect on vision just annoying twichting.

to LuLu- your are not a stupid leader by no means....this is obviously a stump question. that is is good thought to call Mirana, I didnt think to do that. Thanks for the number.

Thank you both for your response

There are no stupid questions, just stupid community leaders  (me!) that don't know the answer to that one.

DV is right - I would start with the pharmacist.  Here is the  contact number for the mfg. of Mirena....  8 8 8

84   22   937  (I hope this makes it past the autocensor - it doesn't like phone numbers!

I just made acquaintance with the Bayer (the mfg of Mirena) reps here in Ohio - I will also write them and ask this question and see if they can dig up an answer.

Do you mean twitching of your eyelid, or eyeball?  Both eyes or just one?  Does it affect your vision?  Do objects seem wavy or seem to bounce around?

Your second question is a very good question, unfortunately I don't have any idea.  Shared Solutions should be the experts wouldn't you think?  Suggest you ask your neuro or GP or pharmacist.
