Thanks Lulu. She seems to be doing pretty good. Fortunately her and I are both "glass half full" kind of people, and she manages to inject humor into nearly every situation - even this one. I'm sending her the link to this site. Already I've found both comfort and a wealth of information...can't thank you all enough...
its ok to post it here but you might want to start a new quesiton with Madison in the title to catch others' attention. I believe we have some people here with experience in Wisc.
I'm glad to see you are catching your breath - I know it is hard to do and this all seems like an emergency, but the clock isn't ticking that fast.
How's your daughter doing with all of this?
...or should I be posting this as a new question...
Thanks everyone for the input. Des Moines is 4 hours away so I'm hoping to find something closer. I see University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison has an MS Clinic so I'm starting to check that out. We've been able to catch our breath a little around here and clear our heads. With your help I've found it easier to slow down and look a little deeper into the options. That said - any input on Madison? :o)
Mayo has some stringent criteria for MS that are more strict than the McDonald criteria. They believe too many people are being diagnosed with MS. I'm not sure what they think these people have, if it isn't MS. You'd think that they would be on the forefront of MS research, but really they're a little behind the curve.
no disrespect to Zaylil's comment about Mayo, but I see that she is not an MS patient, and that makes a big difference. As I've written before Mayo is the place to go for many diseases and treatment, but not our preference for MS.
I see that there is another place in DesMoines - the Ruan Neurology MS Center - here's their press release information
http://www.mercydesmoines.org/news/RuanNeurologyClinicEarnsNationalMS.cfm
I looked at UI 's neurology page and they don't show MS as an area of research - here is what they list .........
Research
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alzheimer's Disease Research Center
Autonomic Dysfunction (including Neurobiology of Cardiovascular Regulation)
Clinical Trials
Epilepsy
Experimental Neuroanatomy
Human Factors Studies (including Driving Safety)
Movement Disorders (including Parkinson's Disease and Huntington's Disease)
Neurochemistry and Neurobiology
Neurodegenerative Diseases
Neuroergonomics
Neuromuscular Diseases (including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Peripheral Neuropathy)
Sleep disorders
Stroke Center
Visual Function Laboratory
Digging deeper in their website you will find an MS clinic referenced that has one doctor on the staff - ■E. Torage Shivapour, MD
there is also a well hidden reference to neuron destruction research.
good luck with this search,
Lulu
Hi There!
I used to work there as a researcher....fabulous facility. I would take my daughter there any day if the need arose (and if we still lived in IA). I do not however have any experience there regarding MS, as I was Dx'd many years later after moving on.
I am so sorry that your daughter, and all of you, are going through this. Best of luck to you all.

Give the Mayo clinic a shot. They are highly highly reccomended. That is what I woud try first.
