No Neurological problems?

Hi Everyone,

Went to see Neurologist this morning. I'd taken notes to give him on my symptoms as I can be very forgetful.
Wouldn't look at list just asked me a few questions. Then did the usual, proding sticking pins everywhere. Said you don't need an MRI Scan as you have no Neuro Problems? I insisted on one, just to rule it out. (Hopefully).
Are the tests he gave me foolproof?

I think sometimes we get the symptoms before anything really shows up and that's why the Neuro exam might not show much and we get the brush off ... but we know our bodies and if something isn't right...so good for you getting a MRI is a good idea..

my first Neuro exam a few years back I got the "go back and see your Dr" not much help.
couple of years later, more symptoms, same Neuro....said your back again... not much on Neuro exam, but he sent me for a MRI since it was a couple of years..and it showed lesions that was surprised to see.

I'm still not Dx...but under investigation for a demylinating disease...which one is the question..

take care and hang in there

Thank you Heather and so are you.

I get the impression sometimes and I know it's quite synical of me. But I think the
attitude of SOME specialists is dependant on TIME and to how much MONEY is in
the POT!!!  Gets me so exasperated!

Stay with it Wadeheather.
Were all behind you.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

You've hit the Nail on the head!  Open Minded. If all specialists were so, then people
wouldn't be left perplexed and thinking they've completely lost the plot! as I have.

Glad I stood my ground.

Speak to you soon.

I had a neuro do that to me in the spring.  Told me my "pain filter" doesn't work like everyone elses.  Then I had another dismiss me with headaches without even talking to me. Now I have another in Sept at the U.  Don't give up. It's easy to say and hard to do, but you are worth an answer!

Thank you for coming back to me.

He wasn't the specialist I was supposed to see.
Took me by surprise.

I know there's something amiss because the pain and symtoms I have are very similar to the one's I've read on the forum. As Lulu 54 said, he'd already diagnosed me before I'd walked in the door.

I try to react on gut instinct and if in doubt go for another check ie MRI.

Hope your tests go well. Let me know how you go on.

Cheers

Hi OllyOil,

The neuro exam is an unusual test - you can't study for it and you definitely can't cheat on the answers.  But the fact that the neuro would not look at your list of symptoms tells me he had already diagnosed you and didn't come into this with an open mind.

I know seeing the specialists in the UK is a difficult ordeal to even get an appt - I'm glad you insisted on the MRI .  If nothing else, if it comes back clear that should alleviate some of your concerns.

Stay in touch, ok?

Thats strange..

I am going for a neuro test in the next few weeks, I am not sure what to expect.  I am sure that this guy would have been an expert and if there was the slightest hint that something is wrong, he would send you straight for an MRI.

I would defo get a second opinion if there is any doubt in your mind.

Cheers
