My neuro told me he has seen a patient as young as 6 and as old as 72 when they were first diagnosed. Your age of 16 is on the young side of "normal" but nothing about MS is normal. I was just dx'd in September, after being told I was probably too old at the age of 53.
Please listen to your neuro and try to set your worries on the back burner until you can see him again. The thing about MS is it is unlike a disease such as cancer, where there is an urgency in being treated immediately. You want to be seen in a timely manner but waiting for the next round of tests and appointments is not unusual.
its good to hear your MRI's are scheduled this month. I hope you will continue to join us here and ask your questions.
My best, Lulu
I wanted to thank everyone for your advice, everyone here is so nice and welcoming. I ended up calling up my neurologist ( I had previously had appointments with him over my migraines) and telling him of my other symptoms and, he said they are worth checking out and told me not to worry about anything until the results came through. I am now scheduled for a head, neck, and spine MRI later in this month.
I know this may sound like a stupid question but is there a certain age for when you can get MS or symptom's like this. I ask this because I am only 16 and wondering if this something a doctor will even look into.
Yes I have had almost all of these symptom's come and go and then return later. Thank you for all the advice and about not telling the doctor what I speculate, ( I never thought about that but that probably would make a lot of doctors say i was a "disease-shopper").
I think they are all definitely things to bring up to your doctor- write it down so you remember all of them. Ess is right with her advice about not telling your doctor you have been researching on the internet. The doctors like to be the ones who put all the pieces of the puzzle together. Lulu
Hi and welcome.
I'd be very much surprised if you are imagining these symptoms. I often think we'd have to have very vivid imaginations indeed to dream up these things, some of which we didn't even know existed.
Absolutely see your doctor. But my advice is NOT to say that you're there because you think you might have MS, based on what you've read on the Internet. Red flag! Doctors hate that, and will quickly label you as a disease-shopper. Just write down the symptoms you've had and when you've had them (Have they come and gone, only to come back again?). Tell your doctor they seem very strange to you and you thought you'd better have them checked out. That's true, isn't it?
In all likelihood you'll be referred to a neurologist, and once again, never speculate about what might be wrong. Best of luck to you.
ess
so do you think these are things to bring up with a doctor or is it all my imagination
Hi questioning,
Welcome to our forum - its a great place to do exactly as your name says - questioning everything! All the things you list here do match up with MS symptoms, but also match other neurological problems. Please write them all down so you remember to mention them all to your doctor.
Its funny you are wearing a glove at times because I have done that - my most recent phantom clothing was a stocking hat - I can feel it on my head - just that slight ever present pressure. This is a weird disease to figure out and diagnose. Please come back often to share you questions and story - be patient with the dx thing. It usually takes a long time.
Be well, Lulu
I also wanted to add this it is kinda weird I know but sometimes my arm goes numb and its tiring to move it. I also feel sometimes like there is a glove over my hand and it gets very warm. And this feeling in my arm comes and goes but at random times, and not when you would normally suspect it like when you lay on it for too long while sleeping.
