I feel like the odd one here. I fear the cold. When the AC was on in the house, it put such a chill in my feet if I walked on the floors without slippers. It's been really cold a few days, and my husband is sitting in shorts and I am wrapped in a blanket. I keep gloves in my purse because the steering wheel gets so cold. I thank God for my heated seats and the fact that driving alone to work everyday allows me to make my car hot. In September we were in Tucson and the temps were over 100, I felt great, but noticed my face ( in pictures), was swollen and my eyes looked closed.
Does anyone feel like this??
Maureen
Thanks for all the replies. My husband and mother were very concerned Jordan would get sick being in such a cold room. I do feel his skin and his skin is not that cold. It's hard to tell someone to stop doing something that makes them feel better. I guess like everything else Jordan will figure out what he can and can't do. One step at a time right? lol! Guess I would rather deal with him getting sick and having medication to fix it then to hear him night after night miserable and unable to sleep and nothing right now to fix this. Hope that made sense.
The other night he was getting zapped and was having numbness and tingling in various spots. He wanted to get in hot tub. Bad idea. He was really almost sick after 10 minutes and then his symptoms were much worse. He learns as he goes. He reminds me often that he is not like us and what he feels is not what we feel. I just support him, keep most opinions to myself and let him learn what is best for him. Hard sometimes as a mom but teens are more difficult sometimes. He is a great kid and he will figure it out. I just keep a really close eye!lol! And his humor is still strong so all is good! Thanks again!
I am much more comfortable in cooler temps. We keep the living area of the house at about 68 degrees f in the winter months, and our bedroom much much cooler. I have to sleep with a light blanket only or I get too warm, and if I get too warm I seem to get more breakthrough sx's, like
facial pain, headaches, numbness etc..
In the hotter summer months I run two portable ac units to keep the house cool. I used to have to move to a basement bedroom before I got the ac units. My younger daughter complains that my "house is a fridge" when they visit, as do my parents. I try to keep it a little warmer when I have overnight guests, but they still have to wear extra clothes to be comfortable.
I get what Jordan is saying. It makes perfect sense to me.

Hey, twopack, I never heard the muscles warm/nerves cool thing before. Sounds simple enough.
For me, though, it seems to vary sometimes. Normally I don't have trouble with temps, but sometimes I do. During my worst periods, I think I am as bothered by cold as by hot. I am more consistently set off by changing from warm to cool and vice versa.
Of course, I have no dx, either, so my experience should not be considered an example of MS, only of my unidentified oddities!
most certainly the cooler temps with mild sunlight. the desert sunlight here is just way to irritating to my eyes.
for me, i don't hibernate as much during cooler season, not as fatigued, generally speaking. i can and do have bad bouts with fatigue in cooler temps just doesnt seem to be as continuous as say summer heat times.
I definitely like the cooler temps. My husband grew up in the south and loves his heat but agrees to keep the thermostat set on 65 in the winter so I'm more comfortable. (I'd hate to see him have to bundle up too much.) Even so, if I start to move around much I can't wear more than a T-shirt and I start to sweat. I can feel both physical and cognitive function decline whenever temps rise.
Don't think I'd enjoy sleeping in the freezer though! Kids!! Always extremists aren't they? Got to love them.
On a serious note - it is a well established fact that all abnormalities of the nervous system respond poorly to elevated temperatures. Muscles like things warm. Nerves like them cool.
Yes and no with me, heat definitely makes things worse, more fatigue, cog fog, balance, visuals etc but i also over react to cold temp though its quite different. With really cold temps, my tremor is bone rattling, the spasms and jerks are not pleasant at the best of times but if i'm too cold they go to a new level and i'm ready for someone to shoot me just to make it stop.
My temperature gage is broken!
Cheers......JJ
Cooler temps are definitely a fav of many people here. I know Quix keeps her space 'meat' locker cold. If it makes Jordan comfortable, that's a good thing, right? Hope you both are doing well. hugs, L
