sllowe not feeling well

Hi All,

Just wanted all of you to know that our Shelly (sllowe) is not feeling well.  She has been fighting with a bad cold for a few days now, but it has worsened, with fever and chest congestion.  Poor Shelly is not feeling well at all.

I wanted to let all of you know so that you could send her your good vibes and well wishes.  She promised me if she started feeling worse she would go to the dr.  She is taking antibiotics, but I do worry about her.

This is for you Shell,
I love you sweetie!!  Please take care and don't take any chances with this!!  I'll be praying and thinking of you every minute of the day!!!

Much Love, and loads of healing hugs,
doni

It sounds like something I had six weeks ago, and I had the flu shot!  It kept me up every night and I got extremely run down.  It did cause a minor relapse, so I'd ask the doc about medicines that will help with the chest congestion so that you can sleep at night.  Mucinex was somewhat effective.

((((((((Well wishes)))))))))  (((((((((((Good vibes)))))))))))))

I'm glad to see you're on the mend, at least a little.  I guess the silver lining is the quitting smoking...  now, don't growl at me!  :o)

I quit back in '96 (for the last time) and spent weeks sucking on natural candy canes (after Christmas clearance).  I had planned on gaining weight, but didn't.  I did feel so much better.

It's OK to whine like a big sissy when you feel so rotten; especailly when everyone here knows that you are NOT a big sissy, or ornery, either.

I  hope you wake from this nightmare soon, and can join us back here full time.  I haven't been on the forum much, but I do miss you when I peek in.

Hugs,

kathy

Glad to hear you are finally starting to feel better. Good to hear you're going to quit smoking! That'll be a hard battle but well worth the fight! I hope you continue to feel better each day.

Still in my  thoughts and prayers,

Good for you on quitting smoking! What perfect time to quit. You already feel icky and crabby so why not! I hope you continue to improve quickly and get back to life as norm. :) It's so hard to get sick when you have MS. I just experienced that myself. Holy Moly.... 3 round of antibiotics before I got over a silly sinus infection! Hang in there.

Hi there,

Well, I may be finally coming out of the other end of this mess, I think.

I'm having a hard time just letting this run it's course. I'm frustrated, I'm sick to my stomach w/the new round of antibiotics, my legs won't cooperate and I'm not sleeping.

I should be grateful that I do not feel as bad as I did though, but I'm too busy feeling ornery and rotten over it all.  And, now, I'm whining to you all about it like a big sissy.

I miss you all so very much.  I don't like being away from you. I enjoyed reading this thread today and I want desperately to get back to you full-time.  I'm not going to take any more of these meds, I'm just going to let it finish itself up.

Oh yea, the Flu shot, I'm getting the flu shot next year. And, I'm not going to smoke anymore. I'm wanting one so badly, but when I tried, all my chest did was spasm.  So, I'm done w/them - I'm a little ornery from that too.

I'm working on pretending this is all some horrifying nightmare, and will stop feeling sorry for myself soon,
Love and miss you all.  Thank you all so very much for your prayers, thoughts and for helping me through this...

Yes, it appears Shell deveeloped influenza on top of her cold.  She has all the classic symptoms.  She has really been knocked low by this.  We're hoping that it doesn't bring on a relapse.

This is why we want all of you to get the inactivated flu shot.  If you have never had the real flu, then you don't realize how sick you get.  There have been 22 deaths in children in the US since the first of the year.

Here is the CDC data on it which they publish weekly.  Scroll down to the pretty, colorful graph and you can see that the flu is peaking just now.  It usually peaks right around the holiday season.

Lulu is right.  Hand washing is the best defense.  There are anti-viral meds which can shorten the flu and make the symptoms lighter, but ONLY if the med is started within 72 hours of the first symptoms.

Get better Shell.  We all miss you.

All,
This influenza is a serious strain and is taking a good 7-10 days to run the course of making you wish you were dead to realizing you weren't going to be that lucky and you have to stick it out until you feel better.   If you get sick, please contact your doctor immediately because the anti-viral stuff they can give you have to be given in the first couple days for it to be effective.

We can't tell you enough times - scrub your hands often during the day, it is your first line of defense against all these germs.

Especially wash your hands after being at the grocery and touching the cart handle (buggies to you Brits I believe). They are so contaminated with all kinds of germs.

Stay well,
Lulu

Wow you must really have a bad thing going on.  Tougher antibiotcs?  Maybe this is a virus after all, which antibiotcs won't touch.  Geeessshhhh, Shell, I hope you feel better soon.  Do you think this is the flu that it is going around?

Hoping you are back in the swing of things soon, girlfriend. We've missed you...

Big Huggie Wuggies,
Heather

Hi All,

Wanted to give you an update on Shelly.  She went to the dr again on Mon and the dr put her on stronger antibiotics, but they are making her sick to her tummy.  She's still having a hard time taking deep breaths and having lots of trouble with her legs.

So gang, reach out to our precious Shelly, and send her your healing thoughts and prayers.

I love you my sweet, Shelly, and praying for you to get over this very soon.

Please consider going to the ER. The fact that you can not take a full breath is NOT good. Speaking as a former nurse, get your butt to the ER, missy! If you don't have pneumonia yet, not taking care of yourself will certainly get you a good case of it too. the fact that themeds are not working means that you need to be re-evaluated, especially the inability to take a full breath.

I know you don't want to go to the ER, the wait stinks, the price tag is absurd, the service probably lousy, but your health is more important than all that! Put the stubborness aside and go!

Take care of yourself!

Really, so many of us don't want to go to the dr. until we get so bad we must go to ER.  I'm preaching to myself here, understand.  We pray that your symptoms all miraculously fade away until forgotten, so you may get some good rejuvenating rest.

Hi there,

Thank you all so very much for your thoughts and wellness.  I'm all jacked up folks.  Can't remember ever being this sick.  I must not of knocked on wood hard enough during Heather's 'do you get sick often' post she started ...thanks Heather, (only kidding)

I didn't go to the Dr like I should have.  I'm paying for it now.  The meds don't seem to be working and I'm unable take a full breath, along with a whole lotta other **** mixed in.

I have been resting though, drinking, etc.

I will go to the Dr. on Monday though and if things get even worse the weekend, I'll go to the ER, but I really don't want to do that.

Thanks again -
Shell

Thanks Doni, and I read an article of yours it was wonderful about not giving up--Thanks

Get back to bed Shell....drink more too....and listen to Doni...
hugs,

Chicken soup sounds good.  A good slathering of Vicks VapoRub can't hurt, either.

Remind me to stop at the store on the way home tonight. ;)

Sorry to hear you are feeling so horrid honey...hope it doesn't last much longer and it might help to "steam" for that chest congestion.  That is what my Mom used to threaten us with and we miraculously started to feel better quite soon!  hehe  Hope you are better and back in the saddle again soon!

Lots of Hugs,
REna
