MRI Results explanation

Hi I had an MRI done due to massive pressure headaches and dizziness.  I have had high blood pressure for many years and Im now 43 yr female
The results say the following:
Several Punctuate foci of white matter hyperintensity on the FLAIR sequence are indentified.  The largest is identified adjacent to the anterior horn of the right lateral ventricle and measures up to 6.4mm.  Everything alse said it was normal.  All my family dr did was put me on two more mediacations for high blood preassure (I was already on one) and added amatriptiline for the headaches.  He said they would repeat the test in six months.
If any one can help me figure out what this means that would be great.

Hi Ladydove,

Thank you for joining us. You and I are the same age.
As Lulu mentions, high bp does cause brain changes. While it may seem initially that all your doc did was adjust meds, it's so very important for bp and hypertension to be controlled. There are too many consequences if not, and the biggie - stroke.

I wish you very well with controlling it with life changes, and meds, so further damage is not done.
If you do not feel instrant relief from those headaches and dizzy, PLEASE PLEASE keep your thumb on those docs to control it ASAP.

This scenario is fairly personal to me because a close family member of mine was not controlled. Not a good outcome.

Thank you for trusting us to thoughts and advice.

High blood pressure /ishemic disease can cause spots on the brain and so can headaches.  I like the idea of repeating your MRI in 6 months to monitor change but I would feel much better if you said your GP referred you to a neurologist.

Neurology is a very specialized area and most GP's don't have the training to read these images and construct a possible dx.

Good luck - get that second opinion from the specialist.
