MS Possibility?

Hi, I was just curious to see what the chance are of having MS if your MRI of spine, neck, and brain is normal, the SSEP is normal, bloodwork normal, and your EMG/NCS is normal? I have had some strange Neuro symptons after the flu shot. Thank you!

It may make sense to get a fresh start with a new neurologist. You need a fresh set of MRI's including head, c & t spine all with and without contrast. You may need an LP. If you meet with a new neurologist do not mention any possible diagnosis. Do not mention MS. Let them figure it out.

That's all bull! I had doctors say that all the time....strong not weak reflexes are great no worrys....your young! Now I'm 26 diagnosed with MS which he believes I had 4 years prior undiagnosed. Get a brain and cervical spine MRI if there are no lesions you should be good! But they can also do labs or a spinal tap as well! Good luck!

Hi there Steph,

Everything the community explained prior about MS is still exactly the same, it is highly unlikely what you are experiencing now, could have anything to do with a neurological condition like MS when only a few months ago, all your neurological related testings were clinically normal.

You have stated in your posting history of having health anxiety, which may have some baring on what you experience but i suggest you discuss with your GP what 'else' could cause these symptoms if it's not a neurological causation and what tests you should get to investigate his/her alternative ideas...

Cheers............JJ

MS doesn't usually offer you that many symptoms all at the same time and usually only affects one side of the body.  I'm not seeing MS in this, maybe you just got a whole lot of no fun from your flu shot.

Hi everyone . Wanted to update you on my progress . Went for a neuro check up yesterday my reflexes are brisk all over . I mentioned ms to him again and he says now a days it's diagnosed with mri and mine is clear I feel like it's a waiting game ... I am coming back in 6 months or 1 year if fine at 6 months. My current symptons are pain in neck and back of power head , inner head vibration at back where sore , pain in both legs almost constant , sore side of stomach each side don't know if kidney pain or not ! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated :) thanks

As previously explained on the forum, there are many sx's that mimic the sx's associated with MS, the major difference being the mimicking sx's are not actually caused by brain and spinal cord lesions as MS is.

Typically, if there is not any objective or suggestive clinical or test evidence of there actually being anything neurologically abnormal, there is basically very little chance of a person's sx's being from a neurological causation....

Cheers......JJ

I'm new in this journey, and certainly no expert, but it seems that the way that all of those symptoms came on all at once, and for the most part, have resolved in a few months time, does not seem like MS.  Good luck to you in figuring it out as I have no clue.

I got the flu shot on September 3rd and the very next day developed a severe headache that lasted a few days. I never get headaches and this one was so sore! It finally went away then one night I was going to bed and noticed my left foot felt weird and tingly. I woke up and I had tingling throughout my whole body, throwing up, severe stomach pain in lower right abdomen, strange numbness, internal vibrations, buzzing jumping around, twitching, muscle spasms, my eyes felt like they were moving around when I shut them, loss of control of bowel and urine. A lot of these symptoms are now gone. Just left with strange feeling in left foot where it initially started, buzzing that jumps around, internal vibration come and go, pain in legs.

Can you describe the neuro symptoms that you've had leading up to the MRI's and tests?

Hi Alex, I have had a few exams done and he said my reflexes are kinda brisk but he said im young and i was nervous and worried in office which affects that too. I am only 24. He said everything else is normal. He checked my eyes, strength etc.

The first thing you need to have is a neurological and ask the doctor to explain it as you go. Many doctors do not explain them. A GP can do one. It is reflexes and so on. If it is abnormal I would pursue neurological. If it is normal it is not neurological. A neurological exam is more accurate than any tests. A good neurologist can not only tell you have damage but where it is in the central nervous system or peripheral. My GP found my MS from doing a neurological exam. My pain doctor, psychiatrist, and physical therapist have all done them on me. I had one when I was a toddler and they knew I had damage to my brain stem.

Hi Steph - Welcome to our group.

While the chances of having MS in light of all the negative/normal test results you mention still exist, they start to become pretty small. Also, there is not research that supports any significant connection between flu vaccines and MS.

Are you seeing an MS specialist?

Sorry to hear you are dealing with strange neuro symptoms....I'm right there with you!  All tests/MRI's/blood work has been normal...everything else has been ruled out...it's a long frustrating process to get to the bottom of it, I hope you can get answers and relief soon!

There are loads of helpful experienced people on this site, I'm sure someone else will respond as well.
