Need your advice, suggestions, HELP!

Yesterday I went to see the neuromuscular doctor.  He didn't tell me much after his long and detailed exam and qestioning waiting instead for the blood work results that he ordered to come back and then talk again.

So he has asked me to send him my MRI reports and LP results confirming my MS.  He said that all he can go by is that I "told him" I have MS.  I asked if he would like to see my injection sites and he said no that was ok but still wants to see the test results.

Here's my dilemma:  When my lung doctor referred me to him she said she didn't want to step on my MS neuro's toes.  He is a doctor at a sort of rival medical school.  I called my MS neuro's nurse and asked if this would be an issue and she said no as long as the issues the other doctor was looking into wasn't MS related.  If I send those records, then I have a strong feeling this would end up causing a problem and I don't want to lose my MS neuro.

What would you guys do if you were in this situation?  I've been fired by a doctor before over a simple misunderstanding and I would hate to have that happen again for no good reason.  Thanks and I look forward to any suggestions you guys have to offer.

Julie

Thanks so much you guys.  All of your "2 cents worth" added up to valuable feedback.

I called my MS neuro's nurse and told her what was going on and what the other doctor wanted as far as records.  I asked if she thought  Dr. R would have a problem with it and she said no.  She did say that if they started talking about any MS treatment options and/or if I wanted to change doctors then that would be a different story.  So, I will forward the information that he asked for will peace of mind that my MS doc won't have an issue with it.

Thanks again you guys for helping me find the appropriate way to handle this.  You all are the best.

Another two cents :o)  Wouldn't any "neuro" doctor of any kind want to see MRIs and such even if MS was not a question?

I would be worried if he were trying to dx me without he info.  If I hadn't had an MRI I would expect him to order one.

Besides wouldn't that have nothing to do with MS.  You can have two, even three if you want.  Autoimmune diseases often come in numbers.

Just something to think about.

And as Alex asked do you already have copies of these or would you have to get them.  If I had to get them directly from the neurologist's office I would offer an explanation up front and maybe ask again if it is a problem.

However, I have to say if a doctor of mine refused to share info with another doctor I would be suspicious/concerned.

Good Luck, terry

Another 2cents. Gee, you'll be rich soon, LOL. Could you ask your ms neuro for a letter confirming your ms? That way you wouldn't have to provede the muscular dr with MRI's and LP results that may not be any of his business to see. You might ask the MS Neuro for a "To Whom It May Concern letter, saying you wanted this information in case of an auto accident or illness requiring ambulance or medics. Actually, thinking about it, that might not be a bad idea anyway.  Good luck.

Oops, how soon do you see the neuromuscular doc again?

I think that communicating directly with you MS neuro about the situation is a great idea; hopefully you can arrange it quickly.  You can explain that your lung Dr. referred you to this neuromuscular guy who wants to see your records (should you mention that he wants 'proof' that you have MS?).

That you wanted to check in with him, first, as you respect his opinion highly.

I'm sure that you will find the words.

Me being me, I would also request a copy of Dr. Neuromuscular's chart notes to be picked up by you as soon as they are ready.  See where his head is, so to speak.

Best of luck,

Kathy

I would ask for a face-to-face with the MS neuro and tell him what is going on, since he is the one you want to keep happy.  Or at least do a telephone conversation with him.  You have worked too hard to get that relationship going to have it gummed up by a misunderstanding.

It would be so much better if the egos are that much of a problem if he hears it from you rather than via the grapevine.

my two cents,
Lulu

Maybe you could call/write and explain the situation to the MS neuro, and tell him your concerns? The situation may be diffused entirely, as far as he's concerned, because you involved him from the beginning.

Can you ask for the results for yourself. I tell the doctors I like to keep all these test results together in case I am out of town and have an attack or have to be hospitalized.
Then make copies and hand deliver to the Doctor. Also I can get things for a small fee from the place I have my MRIs.

Oohh, that doesn't sound like fun.  It's terrible to be put in a position where you're having to negotiate between two people's  egos...

One possibility would be to very politiely say that the MS is dx by another doctor (possible to get that in writing?) and that you aren't asking him for a second opinion on the dx, but rather the other issue you're seeing him for.  He may not take that well (especially given that he said "you only told him" that you have MS...  weird!) but if he's really bad about it, better to know now than lose your MS neuro whom you really like.  Also, if he's confrontational or mean about this, you can document it and make a complaint.

I'm sure there are other ways of dealing with it, but if you like your MS neuro, I'd be more worried about keeping him/her happy than this new dr who wants to question your dx, even though you're not asking for a second opinion.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Hi Julie,
That's a tricky one!  I am not sure if I am able to offer you advice. I do think if you have a good Dr they shouldn't mind if you seek out other health professionals as everyone has their own speciality.  I guess only you can decide and make that decision.

I hope you are going okay?  How are you?  I haven't seen you on the forum much lately but I guess we all get busy.

Take care,
Udkas.
Sorry I wasn't any help.
