My MRI Report from Yesterday....

  Hello Forum Friends :)

I had an MRI yesterday and got the Report on it today......chime in please and give me your thoughts.
Do you think that the impression is a bit vague???  I kinda do!  oh well, tell me your thoughts.

it was done on a 1.5 T  w/  w/out Contrast.

Findings:
The white matter lesion of Increased signal in the right Cerbral Hemisphere next to the Lateral Ventrical appears more Prominent and measures 6 mm in size. There is also a similiar Lesion in the contralateral side measuring 8mm in size. Prominent perivenular spaces at the level of the Lateral Ventricle is again noted. The brainstem is unremarkable.

Opinion:
Relatively symmetric areas of alyered signal near the Lateral Ventricals in the White Matter. These are more apparent than the study done on 7/7/09.
This Appearance is compatible with the diagnosis of MS.

OK, Here are my 2 questions:.....
1) I did not think that MS lesions got that big??

2)  From what I looked up on the part where it talks about Prominent Perivenular spaces...All my google searches state that....This widening may be an important sign in differentiating primary (ie, in multiple sclerosis) from secondary causes of demyelination.

Is this Accurate??? What does that mean??   Guess I'm a  little bit confused.....
Thanks for all your input.

  WAIT,WAIT!!!  I feel like such a goof!

When I typed this up....was not wearing glasses and hubby noticed that I did not add one of the sentences in the FINDINGS portion of the Report......

So here is the sentense to add to the FINDINGS part.....Although it probably means nothing!!   (Sorry)

Added Sentence:

Linear areas seen as Increased signal on T2 on Axial Image 14 and Low signal on T1 are not identified on the FLAIR  sequences .

Thanks,
~T

Tonya,
Perhaps you're thinking of MRI slices being recommended at 3mm?  I don't believe there is a size limit to MS lesions, but I may be wrong.  I have ones that look as big as golf balls on my pics.

As we've said here many times, the radiologist report is usually vague - yours is no exception.  The neuro is going to read the films without being influenced by this report.

As for the widening spaces the statement you copied really doesn't say which way - do larger VR spaces mean more likely or less likely to be MS? I'm sure you have the answer to that one.

Just a quick thought - could this possibly be an indication of neuro sarc and not MS?  I'm not remembering what they based your MS dx on.

be well, Lu

Radiologist when they reffer to an older MRI will only report about the changes from the last one. They leave it up to the doctor to combine them into a single thought so to speak. IN other words the real new report is a combination of the old report plus what is reported in the new report. I'm still not sure if I said that right and I hope you get what I am saying.

yes...I do believe that it the same as the Virchow–Robin spaces and the Prominent Perivenular space increases the possiblity of being diagnosed with MS. Allthough you already are!

that is so kind of you.  I do like Purple ...Lol

I do know and can help others and know what my MRI is reading...I guess I just wanted some others input on it that's all.....I guess this is when I don't want to have to think on my own but want others to unbias opinions.....hope that makes sense as sometimes I ramble on and on.... :0      I wanna be on the flip side.....Lol

Thanks again for the Kind Words

PastorDan and Sailorsong,

WOW!  You both are so speedy! Thank you.
I thought that I read that MS lesions were usually only around 3mm?  That confuses me.

Yes, I too do believe that this is referring (sp) to those Robin Spaces...Lol
Another thing is that the last MRI done that he mentions.....states much more info.....
I guess that is why I thought it was a bit vague...At least compared to the last report..

Thank you so much for your input :)

I am afraid that I am very lacking in understanding of MRI scans compared to the many experts on this site and still feel that I have my "learner plates" on. However I cannot fail to comment on the number of times I have noticed you supporting others with empathic, genuine, knowledgeable input and I just wanted to say that I support the ohters who commented in a different post that they felt you have earned a purple flower (not sure how they are given!) So sorry I am unable to add anything of help about your MRI..(except they have clearly got it wrong as your brainstem is clearly very remarkable!) Hope that some of the other experts can give you the clarity and advice you deserve.

Love and hugs

I am not expert by a long shot, but I have seen some images of lesions that seemed very large to me.  What size there were I have no idea of though. It seems to me if the same ares keep on getting attacked then they would get bigger.

From what you put about the Prominent Perivenular space I would assmue that is good news in that probably MS is the only thing messing with your brain. MS alone is bad enough. :)

I'd never read anything that said MS lesions were limited to a particular size.  I've been told mine are too small to be MS.

Are these "Prominent Perivenular spaces" perhaps the same thing as Virchow-Robin spaces?

All in all, this report doesn't sound especially vague compared to the ones I've read for myself, and several that others have shared here.  Remember that radiologists sometimes say little more than is necessary to describe what they see.  But hey, what do I know?
