I just wanted to comment that I don't recommend anyone purchase a cane with a foam handle on it, the cushioned handle head. I had horrible horrible throat infections for about two years. I would get terrible throat blisters, etc. Doctors referred me to an infectious diseases doctor because it was so serious.
After going through everything, a thought struck me. It is next to impossible to have a clean foam handle on your cane. You would basically have to soak the foam in rubbing alcohol or whatever to do that. I realized that washing it the way I had wouldn't work. I came to the conclusion the foam retained the various germs from everywhere I went and everything I did.
I stopped using those canes and started using canes with hard handles that I could disinfect. It made all the difference in the world. I have not had one of those infections since I switched canes and made sure I was sterilizing my cane, rollator handles, etc. regularly.
I'm with Jemm, I like the idea of this but have also just acquired a switchsticks designer cane, much trendier - sorry but it is still important to me!
Useful to know about though should the time come so thanks.........

JJ.....Hit him, then use it! LOL! (sorry :P)
What a good idea Pastor Dan, I had a picture of me letting go just so i could get something out of my bag, saves needing someone else around.
Jemm, i think i might 'pimp' mine up with stickers and a new spray job, mine is so borring and just black.
On topic a bit, i'm a little oh my gosh, my brother just bought me a walking frame, not sure if i should hit him with it or take the hint and get over my self lol!
The main problems I have with my stick is my arms tremor too much, well its all of me but I end up holding the stick so tightly because of the tremors, my arms ache all day and the next. I dont know maybe i do need the walker, DH is wanting me to try out some wheels, still it bites big time!!!
Cheers........JJ
That's so cool!
I'm still loving my trendy cane/stick. For those of us not prepared to look like granny (even though some of us ARE grannies - me included!)

PD - I love that cane. It is such a smart idea.
Too bad it is so pricey -

I bought a "tripod based" cane while in Florida a few months back. It isn't as nice as the one in the link and works on a different principle. I believe the tag said "all-terrain cane" or something to that effect.
The base is a three pronged rubber base. It stands on it's own and works reasonably well, especially for the purpose I needed it for. Where my mom lives there is sand underlying the grass so it makes it difficult to walk on if you proprioception issues. For this the cane was great. On hard surfaces it seemed more wobbly than my regular cane but still did the trick, especially for $20. I bought it at the grocery store. Yes, I was obviously at a retirement based community :-).

I love it. I can't stand the sound every time my cane hits the ground let alone having to bend over to pick it up.
Thanks for the link
