Thanks. I always used to sweat profusely. I guess this is another symptom to put on my list so they can keep saying I DON'T have ms.
I do not sweat nearly as effectively as I used to. I am the only person in my family that has difficulty with this. I have to be extremely careful in this hot weather. My body temperature doesn't cool when it's too hot (or warm when I'm too cold, BTW). I don't know what causes this, but I think there's damage in my brainstem area. I don't know this for a fact, but I have a significant issue with this.
Easy-does-it in this weather. I found that even that extra few minutes of housework will cause me to overheat. I cannot exercise right now, either. I have my treadmill underneath the ceiling fan, but like I said, I don't sweat normally. I suppose taking a cool shower would help, though . . .
I don't have MS, but I have never perspired freely, which makes me prone to heat exhaustion. When I was young, I had to limit the time that I could play tennis or basketball, because I would overheat, breaking out in prickly heat, then getting chills and my body turning bright red, especially my face. And yes, I usually got a nice headache to go with it.
My dearly departed grandmother, who was born and raised in England, was a great one for quotes/sayings. With this, she would have said "Horses sweat, men perspire and women glow." Personally, I'd rather perspire or sweat, as that is the body's cooling mechanism. Glowing can be downright dangerous!
If you don't perspire freely, it's important to know the signs/symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and steps you can take to prevent them. Medications can also affect the body's ability to regulate temperature, so it might be worth asking your pharmacist some questions on this topic.
It was brutal here yesterday with the temperature hitting 101 and the heat index registering 116.
Hope everybody stays cool and has a great weekend.

Thanks everyone. I figured I could go out for a couple of minutes, but quickly realized ms or no ms I couldn't stay out in that heat.
Thanks for the replies. I thought it might be something you all had experience with.
It could be you - but it could have to do w/the heat index too - I remember an interp about the dangers of it being so high and the inability for the body to sweat, but not enough to spew the facts on it..... check it out and post it if you come across the info, and stay cool - it's dangerous regardless!
If you think not sweating is strange you should see me. I only sweat on the right side of my body.
Not sweating is just one more reason we should not go out in the heat. The lack of sweating is one of the first signs of heat illnesses, so if we don't get that clue we don't know that we are in need of cooling off immediately.

I really don't ever sweat either. My face gets really red and my ears too, but hardly any sweat. I think it's like that for many MSers. I think I remember reading that somewhere. Only a couple months left till we can go outside and stay outside for as long as we want to!
I sweat like a freaking pig, worse than most men UNLESS I am severely dehydrated.
I barely perspire, myself..I just turn bright red, my heart pounds, I get very very nauseated and light headed. Typical MS stuff. I believe that's pretty typical for MS and a couple of other disorders as well.
On another note ... Sheesh..what were you doing outside in this heat? LOL This is time that people like us, if at all possible, hole up in the ac until sundown..basically become vampires...only going out after dark:)
