Ow ow ow ow ouch!!!!!

I'm not even sure how I did it, but I managed to shut my right thumb in my car door this morning!  It hurt so bad I couldn't figure out how to get it out; held my key in my left hand to unlock door, then realized I just needed to pull up on the handle.

I had a deep line all around my thumb by the base of the nail.  I stumbled back in the house, upstairs to put arnica gel on it (roommate woke up and was very sympathetic).  Went down stairs and made an ice pack that I rubber-banded around my poor thumb.

I was on the way to my yoga class, leaving about 7:30 am.  I'd loaded my bag with mat and block in the trunk, put a water bottle in, and just can't figure out how I managed to do such a thing!

I drove the 25 miles to yoga with ice on my thumb, the darn thing throbbing something fierce.  Considered turning around an going home, but I did yoga last week with a broken toe.

The instructor spoke about doing things (like the asanas in class) with intention.  To intend to hold a pose.  I was intent on doing the poses without hurting my toe or thumb, and it was an even more focused class that I'd experienced before; way cool!  I'm thinking that living more of life with intent would make it more rich.

Rewarded myself with a few pieces of chocolate covered ginger, lol!  (ate in with intention, of course; intense flavor!)

Hi
I did a similar thing a week ago. But not as bad as what your sounds like. Except my finger went numb the rest of day. All I can think is it was the same effect I have with my MS on extertion. Things go numb. So I think the slam increased the amount of blood flow impulses to my finger which get confused on their path.Hence the numb feeling. Just my guess because by that evening the feeling was returning.

I'm going to post a picture of my thumb; not exactly a goth look, but kind of colorful.

Jemm, I did feel quite silly; not as bad as a sheep dingleberry (term I grew up with, used the same way)

Dennis, I'd already broken a toe on my left foot two weeks ago, which was bad enough.  I'll be sure to keep my feet out of the way of car doors!

Inny, your story did make me smile!  :o)

Sarah, it is feeling some better, though when I use it much it reminds me to take it easy.

Audrey, oh, your poor hand!  That door trauma beats mine, hands down, lol.

I'm trying not to OD on the chocolate therapy; must go put my wee ice pack on it now.

Thank you all for your sympathy and support.

Hugs,

Kathy

Like Sarah said, a crush injury is very painful and expect it to take some time before it starts to feel better. Keep up with the ice regimen as it will help to reduce swelling and pressure.

If the pressure continues to build, you might want to see your PCP and have them puncture the nail to relieve pressure. If your nail is long on that finger, consider cutting it short so that you don't catch it on anything, causing more pain or damage.

My darling son closed a door hard on my hand Memorial Day weekend, square on the middle finger of my right hand. The force was enough to split the skin open in several places and it hurt like heck. Used ice for several days, but the finger tip is still swollen and nerve sensation is impaired. It was painful for at least six weeks. I have a half Goth look on that fingernail, even though I have never been into black nail polish!

The chocolate sounds very therapeutic, and as a non medical profession, I would advise you stick with it as long as it brings about desired results!

A crush injury is sooooo painful and you remember if it has happeneed to you. I really hope that it is feeling better today but I expect it will take some time before it starts to feel better.

Continue with chocolate therapy along with bags of sympathy and help.

ooo that must of hurt!!! I one time got my head stuck out the window of a car when my hand leaned on the automatic window button and it rolled up all the way to my jaw as i was leaning my head out the window to say goodbye. Lol it took a couple minutes to try and find the button to roll it down again so I could get my head unstuck..it didnt hurt just uncomfortable..but i thought it would make you smile :)

Well I hope you and your thumb and your toe are being careful and i have to agree...chocolate is always a great fixer upper!

Ouch is right... I've done that before I even got sick. :) You should try close a car door on your foot. Now that really hurts...I've done that so many times I've lost count.

LOL! You dag! ('dag' is a term of endearment meaning here something like "silly sausage", as opposed to it's actual meaning of poo stuck on a sheeps b u m )

Chocolate fixes everything of course!
