Still undiagnosed...

Wanted to get a few opinions. I have had a constant slightly dizzy/tipsy feeling since the birth of my 2nd child 22 mos ago. Since then I have had my 3rs child about 10 wks ago. The entire pregnancy was uneventful but my "nonspecific dizziness" stayed the same. Right before the birth of my daughter I noticed a tiny bit of numbness on the top of my left lip. After her birth about 6 weeks post partum, the numbness/sticky/tingly sensation starting coming and going throughout the day. Sometimes it feels like it is going out the corner of the leftside of my mouth into my neck. One evening my whole chin was cold. Another strange symptom that I have noticed for the past 22 mos is a slight blurriness at times in my vision. Almost like my eyes have been dilated at an eye appt and not quite back to normal. Almost but not perfect. I notice it most under flourescent lights. Last, and Im really not confident it happening but at times my arms and hands seems a little tired or slow. I don't know if it's my anxiety and me worrying about every new symptom on top of fighting this constant dizzy sensation or if it's really happening. I have never dropped anything but at times my hand feels a little slow on the keyboard for ex. Also, I feel my speech is a little hard to get out at times. And then occasionally I have to really think about what words I want to say. Again thinking that might be anxiety and sleep deprivation after having a newborn to feed all night! My MRIs have all been normal except for a few non specific white spots. They have been unchanged since 2003. I've had numerous scans with all being unchanged. And a spine MRI was completely normal. I just had a lumbar puncture yesterday and I am waiting on the results. He said the O band results wouldn't be back for 5 days. Has anyone out there experienced a constant slight dizziness for such a long period of time? I have had some great days but they are few and far between. Do these symptoms and their timeframe suggest MS? I know it is one of the hardest diseases to diagnose but I thought I would keep asking questions on my journey to answers. I'm never going to give up on trying to figure this out b/c my kiddos deserve a happy healthy Mom! Oh and forgot... I sometimes have the feeling of peppermint oil in my eyes when I lay down at nite. If I'm on my right side, I feel it in my right eye. Strange!

Are you diagnosed with MS? Is it possible to have numbness that comes and goes throughout the day? diff places, slightly diff feelings around your mouth/chin? With MS I thought the numbness would come on suddenly and then stay for a consistent time period (flare) then hopefully go away (remission) or stay permanently. Also with my arm weakness, I'm wondering if that it might be a bit of carpal tunnel syndrome. I was extremely swollen toward the end of my pregnancy and my hands would go numb almost all the time every nite. During the day it would go away except for the tips of some of my fingers. Long story short, my chiro said this is very common after pregnancy (his wife even had it) and it would go away. Sure enough, it did. About 5 wks post partum I believe. Wondering if this weak feeling might have something to do with that? Who knows! Oh and the white spots on my MRI are most likely due to a virus I had back in 03 per my Neuro. All the readings do not indicate lesions consistent with MS or even lesions period. They say non specific white spots of T2 hyperintensity scattered about. Each subsequent MRI has been unchanged. About to have another soon to check again! Thanks for responding.

Greetings.

You're right that being a mom of a newborn can lead to lots of odd symptoms just from the exhaustion factor alone.  But what you describe sounds like more.It sounds like your doctor is also taking your complaints seriously.

You mention non-specific white lesions.  That sure is a vague description that gets your doctor off the hook.

Your dizziness sounds familiar.  I've been compensating for the transient dizzy feeling for a long, long time (about 20 years) without realizing that it could be MS. I hope it doesn't take you that long to get an answer.

hang in there,
Lulu

Hi!

I too am still in limboland!  My first MRI was back in 2005 and has been unchanged in 5 years.  My most noticable symptom is constant dizziness/lightheadedness.

I have not been able to get any of the doctors to agree to do an LP, as they really don't think I have MS...even though I do have symptoms and non-specific lesions on my brain MRI.

I have seen neuros, GP's, ENT's, neurosugery...nobody seems to be able to get to the bottom of whatever it is that is doing this to me.  I guess it's a waiting game.

The constant dizziness really bothers me...it makes it tough to work all day and then go home and take care of two young children!!!

Please keep me posted if you find anything out!  Take care!
