MS stint surgery

Hello,

My mom has MS. She recently had the stint surgery for blocked jugular veins, almost a year ago. From what i've noticed it has helped her but she has some headache type pain every now and then. Has anyone had that surgery? I know it's still controversial. Also any new treatments you've heard of? Thanks a lot

The experts do not recommend inserting a stent in a vein.  It keeps the vein from pancaking, but there's a risk of the stent getting loose and ending up in the heart.

MS definitely involves the circulatory system - Zamboni was right about that.  But the circulation problems seem to manifest in different ways.  Researchers have found that the veins have abnormal structures in patients with MS.  I would wait to see how things shape up, because every year they find out something new.

It is always interesting to hear from people who have had the CCSVI procedure done - especially the stent.  Was this placed in her jugglar vein?

We have had only two others that I know of go through this - Khiba and Shoshin.  PErhaps one of them will see your message and add their thoughts. You're right that it is still controversial and there doesn't seem to be much scientific evidence that it works but lots of patient testimonies  that they feel better.

New therapies? The one drug that had the world's top neurologists buzzing at the ECTRIMS conference in October is BG12, an oral drug that may just be a game changer for MS treatment.  It has been through phase III trials and I think will be going to the FDA perhaps next year for approval?  We can only hope it is as good as the trials suggest.
