Thrilled by Nutcracker

Hi all,

I strongly suggest attending a Nutcracker ballet performance and sitting as close as possible to the stage so you'll feel like you're in it.  I did just that this week and it was thrilling seeing everyone flying through the air, spinning and jumping around effortlessly.  The beauty of it is so uplifting.  I felt like I was a ballerina again (stopped as a child just before toe).  It is total escape!!!   Needless to say, during the performance, I noticed my legs felt incredibly weak - a vicarious response to the action on stage?  Afterward I was humbled that my son could easily assume the "plier" position which I, as a child, had had to spend months achieving and even then I didn't get it perfect like he easily did.  Anyway, I have plans for once I regain my strength somehow or possibly in my "next life", getting back into ballet - this time I'm going all the way through toe dancing and up onto the stage.  I want to be in a Nutcracker performance one day!!!

Cheers and happy holidays everyone!!

I just have to tell you this.

When my son was 13 he performed with the Royal ballet company at the Royal Opera House in London in the Nutcraker over the christmas period. He was a child and a toy soldier.

It was fantastic. We bought a small tree decoration of the nutcraker from the opera house shop and every year it goes on the tree, it make me smile.

This is his final year of training, so he is presently auditioning for different companys. I hope one day I may see a production of the Nutcraker where he dances the prince.

What a lovely experience and I am envious. The last time I went to see the Nutcracker was about 5 years ago when my daughter was 10 and I remember it was just magical. We all need a bit of that magic stuff sprinkled into our lives so glad that you had the opportunity to go.

Have a fab Christmas

WAF - its a wonderful thing to experience in person if possible.  Even amateur productions of the Nutcracker hold a special magical charm this time of year.  Maybe all that walking on our toes for the neuro is only practice for your return to ballet?

happy holidays to you!
