Second one down & good news

Well today I had my second appt. up in Nashville and found out what it was for. The C & P referred to "Compensation & Pention and was in refference to my knee problems.

The good news is that the doctor I saw agreed that my knee problems are service connected and as such all medical needs for them will be completely covered at no cost to me. I have worried about that for some time and have put off getting anything done with them because of that. What a relief that is! :)

Next week I have my first Neurology Appt. at the VA. I am hoping that I will get some good news from that as well. But with the way things have been going I sure won't be holding my breath.

I have only been going to the VA since this July. I decided to try them out because the civilian doctors around here are really lousy.

When I was seeing one doctor (the only family doctor in my small town) I needed him to fill out a certification of my disability form. This was 2 months after my 3x bypass and a referal by him to a neurologist. On the form he put that I had no heart or other problems and not disabled at all.

Another doctor I saw about my allergies did the usual tests and then said I'm not allergic to any of the usual things so go away.  The last time I was tested for alergies I was allergic to almost everything under the sun.

Dennis,
I can only hope your good experience recently can be seen as a change within the whole system - yes, I am a Pollyanna and will always continue to hope for the best.

be well, Lulu

Hi Dennis,

I'm glad everything is going toward the positive and that any expense with your knees will be taken care of through the VA.

My dad was a veteran of WWII, and suffered with heart disease.  The VA can be a daunting experience and getting the meds is like running a marathon.  It was tough dealing with them at times.

I'm sure you've learned over the years the best way to get what you need through the VA.  I will say a prayer that everything goes smoothly with the neuro.

Take care and keep us informed!!

Unfortuneately the treatment of Vets isn't as good as my posts sound. I have just been lucky lately with the doctors I have been seen by.

My friend and neighbor recently had the VA give him an Rx for one of his needed meds that was 1/8 his normal dosage. It took him over 1 month in order to get them to fix that. During this time he was doing a lot of sleep walking and tearing up of his home in his sleep as he suffers a lot from PTSD. During this period I really was afraid he would end up killing himself so I spent a lot of time checking on him. The main problem was that his previous PCP had transferred out of the VA here and it took him 3 months to get them to assign him a new PCP. He still hasn't been able to get an appointment to see his new PCP after almost 2 months since the assignment of the new PCP and 9 months since he saw his last PCP.

They have also messed up in my treatment a couple of times as well. Once they gave me an RX for my BP that was 2x what it was suppose to be. And just Yesterday I found out that the MRIs of my knees that I had dropped off the 18th of last month are not in my records. This is why when I have my Neuro appt next week I plan on taking another copy of my brain MRIs with me.

Dennis,
It sure appears that your medical care has been on the improvement plan recently - your last few posts appear that the doctors are paying real attention to you and your symptoms and not just giving you lip service.  It sure is redeeming my faith a bit in how we treat our vets.  Be well, Lulu
