Vaccine trigger

My nephew first had symptoms just before graduating from boot camp in the US Navy.  They claimed they didn't know what was wrong and released him.  No medical discharge.  He later was diagnosed w MS.  
I have heard vaccines can trigger MS.  It seems to me that it's highly probable in this case.  He should have at least gotten a medical discharge u think.  What is ur opinion?

  This is tricky because it takes sometimes a long time to diagnose MS. For example, for disability purposes, day one is diagnosis so someone like me who had neurological problems in 1965 starts in 2009 with my diagnosis of MS it does not matter I that I have probably had MS since 1965.
  The problem is no one knows what MS is exactly. They can not even reproduce it in mice. It has been around since before vaccines were popular. There is definitely a genetic factor, then something in the environment sets off the genetic. The trigger is different for each person.
   I am not sure what a medical discharge is. If you mean should they be responsible for his care I am not sure that applies here.

u have to FINISH basic to get medical discharge......you are on probation, so to speak, until you do finish.  

so sorry to hear of this.....I don't think the vaccine is the cause, but who knows.....

I agree with Alex, you usually have it years before it surfaces so you can see it.  He's probably had it for some time and the s/s are just now showing up.

Does he have other interests to pursue now that he is not going to be military?  Our best of wishes to you and your son and keep us posted.

I have to respectfully disagree about the exposure to the service ordered vaccinations causing his MS - the vaccines are proven to not cause this problem.  For many of us, The MS is quietly lurking just waiting for the right combination of "events" to cause it to flare and create problems.

I am so sorry to hear about your nephew - those young men who develop MS at an early age often have a less that favorable prognosis - we know their MS will often be much worse.

There is a lot of false information on the web regarding vaccinations.  There is a group of people who are suspicious of all vaccines and don't want to believe the hard facts that prove them safe otherwise. This is often the same group that doesn't vaccine their children, and we are now seeing an increase in those illnesses and even last year there was a pertussis outbreak in California that killed several infants who weren't vaccinated.

There is also the group that believe the doctor from England who claimed autism is caused by childhood vaccines - they have proven not only was he wrong, but he made up a lot of his information and lied about it.  Those parents still want to believe this quack even though he was shown to be a  fraud.

There are some vaccines we should be wary of taking - those are the vaccines with the live virus.  The flu mist is a live virus and MS people should not take it BUT it is ok to take the flu shot, because the virus is npt live.  There is a crazy group on the web that claims the flu vaccine is made of biological wastes and aborted fetuses and is the government's attempt to kill us off!    It does take all kinds to make life interesting, but we can do without the nutcases misleading people who need and want honest information.

I hope that before anyone jumps on the anti-vaccine wagon, they will take the time to research the question through legitimate sources.

We have been told my son Jordan (age 12) can never have Flu vaccination again as it may have triggered the start of "highly suspicioned MS".  That being said and all the tears and sadness it may have caused I CAN'T say I believe it.  I am also a RN and I know what happens when you don't get them-it can be devistating to children.  I have no regrets nor would I have changed getting the vaccinations.  He just got the Chicken Pox vaccine again for booster.  I can't say I was not nervous but it would cause him more problems if he gets it.  We all had the flu vaccine.  Now, I believe it is possible it along with other factors that were in place may have set off the illness but if it did it is a very rare occurance.  I would have to have more solid proof instead of all the theories to make me change my mind.  I do know several people who are very against them and I respect their opinion.
