Very strange symptoms not sure if it's MS

My 24 year old ddaughter began suffering tachcardia and arythmias in March 08. May of 08 began having severe pain from hips to outer thighs to knees. Had no reflexe in knees and ankles. Began getting a trembing in legs. One morning she got out of bed and fell to the floor. Had continuing falls and very spastic looking walk. Within 3 days she couldn't walk at all. Ended up in the hospital for 3 days. MRI of the brain and spine showed no lesions. All tests were normal. she was released with a walker. She gradually improved to where she didn't need a walker but still had falls. In June 08 she developed abscesses on her hips/legs and spiking fevers. This time she was in the hospital 8 days, had them surgically removed and spent the next 30 days having the abscesses cared for at the wound clinic.
She has had several episodes of falling, numbness, now blurry vision and reapeat abscesses with fever. None of the symptoms have been as bad as the first time . Heat and excercise make them worse. Sometimes the symptoms only last a day or two with the legs buyt the heart problem is always there as is the pain in the back/legs. does this sound like MS?

They are indeed very strange symptoms, but as Lulu says, the fevers, arrhythmias, and abcesses are not typical for MS.  Multiple sclerosis affects the neurological system only - it shouldn't affect body temperature, nor does it cause skin lesions.

When the CPK levels are very high, it means that there has been injury to a muscle - the creatine phosphokinase leaks into your bloodstream.

Google "CPK levels" and you'll see what I mean - you should find out a lot by that info.

We have seen infectious disease doctors, neurologists, cardiac. They have come up with diagnosis from Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome to Myethenia Gravis, periodic paralysis, polymiositis, anxiety was what one doctor blamed all the physically measurable abnormalities on. No one can find any one disease that would account for even most of the symptoms. The one thing that really stood out besides the symptoms I mentioned before was her CPK level when she was unable to walk. It was high at over 500. All anyone could tell us was that this indicated muscle cell death.

Hi and welcome.  Your daughter is sure lucky to have you searching for answers.  We're not doctors around here, so we can't help with the dx part of this.  Have the doctors suggested other diseases or infections?

The abscesses do not sound at all like MS.  The lack of reflexes also does not sound like typical MS - hyperreflexes is more the norm.  Fever is not a known MS symptom either.

But then I have to add that there are probably 1,000+ sx of MS, and I may be leading you astray here.

Please keep us posted on your daughter's progress and be sure to take care of yourself too!

my best,
Lulu
