What's up this first week of 2011?

Thought I'd start the ball rolling, since I have something.  This morning I'm going for my annual appointment with the MS nurse practitioner and the neuropsychologist who gives the annual MSFC (25-foot walk, 9-hole peg test, and paced serial addition test.)

I've had no dramatic changes worthy of a mid-year appointment, but my minor things are slowly worsening.  And we'll see what he thinks about the eye pain I've had most of the time since May.

This week I found out I am now eligible for 5 days of paid vacation and holiday pay.

COBOB  I want to come live and work on your ranch. I live in Texas, you mean to tell me they have vehicles with only four tires? Where would you put your mud flaps? I can't even imagine.

Alex- I taught my filly to lay down when I was younger but it was more work to get her to lay down than it was just to get on I didn't have any health issues then., and after a while she would decide to lay down for the heck of it. So sometimes it's not such a good Idea. My mother rode a little bit and she has artificial legs from the knee down. We would go on trail rides and I would always worry about getting her back on the horse after lunch. Once we used a Picnic table when we didn't have a tail gate. Getting up on the picnic table or tail gate was hard enough.  Sometimes getting high or higher helps.

Thanks, all.  I was mistaken; the PCP appt. was today.  He decided there's really no reason to change any of my meds, so we do lipids and a metabolic panel, & go back in 6 months.  BP's good, & I am trimming down somewhat.  I keep telling people Nancy's working me to death with all the home rehab.  ;>D

Gonna try a vinegar & water soak for the funky discoloration that's been on my ankles & part of my feet for several years.  It was an itchy rash when it started in one patch under the right ankle bone, and Lotrimin knocked it out, but never permanently.  Weird that it showed up on the other foot after the first couple of years.  It hasn't itched much for a long time, but there's some definite pigmentation changes in there.  Anyway, Doc R thinks it's probably fungal, but says don't expect pigment to go away once it's there.

Insurance deal is as a self-employed but captive agent.  They say they'll provide all needed training, etc.  Must study some stuff they sent about licensing, & think & pray on the topic a day or two.  Might be just the ticket; might be a real nightmare.  Lots to consider.

Jen: I agree. I've been 39 for 14 years now. :)

Happy birthday to you!

Ooh, that sounds 'orrible...  Worry and stress about your parents and TN on top of that.

Let's see - my birthday is this Friday - I'll be 40 years old.  You only turn 40 once, but you can turn 39 lots of times.

On the 14th of January, I go in for an OCT, a visual field test, and a hearing test.  I'm most interested in the OCT - I've heard a lot about it, but never have seen any results.

Bob, My dad changed from engineering to selling life insurance in his 50's and LOVED it!  He did really well for a later in life career change.  Good Luck.

All week - dealing with my father's severe and increasing rib pain.  We have tried and practiced all the ways of trying to get him to quantify the level of his pain to no success.  If he has any pain it is a 9 or 10.  If there is no pain he is "okay" but then develops pain since you brought his attention to it.  The problem is his dementia and the fuzzy brain from the pain meds.  He had his CT scan of the chest and we are waiting on the report (suspecting cancer).

My mom is increasingly short of breath.  She gets huge pleural effusions (collections of fluid outside the lungs, but within the lungs' sac.  The first time they tapped off the fluid she had a liter on each side).  She is soooo worried about my dad.  They've been together for 71 years.

I am in increasing pain from the right side of my face.  Moving my jaw hurts so badly and the rest of it aches in rolling waves.  I'm set up to see my GP, the dentist, and my MS neuro this month.  I don't want to think, not sure I could if I tried.  I'm ramping up the dose of my carbamazepine.  It seems to be helping with the face aching, but not the mechanics of chewing and moving my jaw.

So, nothing but medical house-keeping this week.  Next week lots of appointments.

Job interview this AM went well, so tomorrow I get to go out in the field with an agent.  Can't picture myself selling insurance, but I need to make a living.  Wed. - Fri. writing sermon, preparing worship, rewiring house, etc.  Oh, hafta return call from PCP's office.  Pharmacy was to call them for an auth on refills; betcha they want to get MY first copay of the year, so it's possible I'll have to go in to see him.  Might also wind up going back for another interview.  Reckon we'll see.

Alex, Julie has sound advise!  The Csikos (pronounced "CHI-kosh", Hungarian cowboy) teaches his or her horse to kneel, sit, lie down as some of the first lessons.  You have mad skills with animals, I bet you could do the same!

This week, it's too much work, babysitting on Thursday, and trying to squeeze some Yoga in, too.  I've started my downhill crash before my next Tysabri infusion next week.

Work all week.
Waiting for call from neuro office to set-up my cognitive function test.
I'm also going to make a call to my neuro office about some new symptoms (so they can keep a record of them).
And I'm say bon voyage to my brothers who are taking off on their annual trip to Hawaii for 18 days tomorrow. (I wish I was going. I haven't been on vacation for about 3 yrs now)

Talked to MS neuro's resident today about my second bout with this virus that is going around and the strange/familiar symptoms that are starting up in the past few days - possible impending relapse. We are on watch and wait for now.

Other than that, all is going fine.  Had to say good-bye to my daughter and SIL this morning as they headed back to Arizona.  Sad day for sure.

Julie

P.S. Alex, ask the horse to kneel down so you can get on.  The horse whisperers make it look so simple.

Wednesday I have an appointment with GM consultant who is trying to manage mt symptoms, with medication. The problem is the symptoms keep progressing unfortnatley the medication can't run fast enough to keep up, then another symptom joins the race!

Alex - a ladder would be a better option like the ones on wheels you get at the home depot store. Or B & Q if you are in the UK.

Alex,

Have you considered vaulting onto the back of your couch....with lots of pillows for falls etc?

That's the only thing I can think of. Vaulting isn't one of my areas of expertise, sorry, = )

Thursday call neuro for IVSM or other treatment if pain doc has no offers for this gnawing bone pain in right leg

Wishing y'all (Southern term for all you Northerners) a good week!

Cobob, how big is that truck?  Most of them normal size ones only take 4 tires!

Hey Alex, do you have a mattress you can jump on to practice?  I would slowly work up to a trampoline.  LOL  How very exciting for you - I am so proud of how you have stuck with this.

As for me, I have a recheck with the orthopod about my hip.  I am feeling so much better after the cortisone injection but need to do the followup and hand over my first $40 co-pay of 2011.

I'm trying to get an acupuncture session on the books, too.  My left calf continues to be unhappy and I'm thinking a treatment might be useful.

Same old same old.

Saturday I am going to ride solo that is without instruction. There will be other people riding. What will be interesting will be getting on the horse by myself. I need to practice vaulting somewhere. Any ideas?
