body aches and pains

I have been told by my pulmonologist that I am un-conditioned and now need to re-condition myself, I will do the treadmill and I will walk a lot shopping.  I cannot do any of this very long at all, my legs hurt so very bad.

Will this get better in time ?

My whole body hurts really..my feet the most and my hands...it even hurts when anything touches my feet or hands.
I have not asked about this and do not know much about it.

thanks, meg

I have always done better on a treadmill for some reason, the bike is worse on my legs.  I always walked a lot too....that was what I loved..

I really scares me that I am so weak.

Meg do you have a stationary bike?  When I was really sick and dizzy walking felt like I was going to faint all the time, but I was able to ride the bike quite comfortably because it is low impact and you sit down on it.

This technique will naturally help to build up your body systems. When you  can do more than 15 minutes, you will start to feel more energy. Let me know when you feel the first benefit. This works gradually, so allow weeks.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Anulom Vilom pranayam –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

I have had this dizzness for 9 yrs now..I have it 24/7 to some extent but it never goes away.  I think it is a part of me now and I hate it ...although not as bad as I hate headaches.

Thanks, meg

I agree it is easy for dr's to tell you to condition yourself but it is difficult when you hurt so bad.  My son (jordan) cannot be in a pool by himself as one day I was with him and he has spasm and took 2 of us to lift him out of the pool.  We have found it helpful to keep our hands under him and he leans against the pool and kicks and then we spot him to move his arms.  He said it is when he feels the least pain and his body not as heavy.  I will say this is not as much fun for the spotter-get a lot of water in your face! LOL  I don't know if this is possible with your dizziness.  Maybe once you see your dr. a few things will get better so you can exercise.  I hope so.  Goodluck to you!  Will be thinking of you.

My GP told me I needed to walk and do sit ups to strengthen my core and my back. The pain specialist said in my case the clonus ( involuntary muscle spasms from the MS ) that will not work. I can do sit ups until the cows come home. That said I do what I can. I am on nerve medicine and muscle relaxants.

I used to walk five miles a day. Now I walk Grady my dog in training less than a 1/4 mile every other day. My breathing does get bad.

I do what I can and that is how it has to be. Many Doctors do not understand MS. I do not think we should give up. It is impotant to get with a PT, a Neurologist, or a Physio who knows somethings about MS to help set a routine.

@Buffy, I don't have a pool and I am dizzy all the time so I can't stand up in the water.
That's what I don't know because I never get a good start on my treadmill to know if it gets better or not.   Because I can do it for only a few min now...I have lost so much strength.  It scares me...

@Caryopteris....I haven't been able to walk too briskly..although I have done it a couple times and I can't breath after...

I will keep trying..thanks,

meg

Does water hurt also?  If you have access to a pool that may be the answer.  Just don't do it alone in case you are too weak.

Impact exc may not be the answer depending on what is causing the pain.  I was told more exc-exc-exc but it made things worse b/c it was my peroneal nerve - which gets worse, not better the more you do.  (I don't have a pool.)  See if you can get on a plan formed by a neuro PT.

Good luck.

I would ask about the pain.  Maybe your extremities are not getting enough oxygen to them.  That means you need to increase your circulation.  You do that with exercise.  I would suggest you walk briskly and do arm motions.  Raise your hands over your head and use good posture and stretch to the sky with your hands and bring them down, trying to get blood to flow in your arms while you walk.  If it is a circulatory problem, it seems like that should use gravity to help you get the blood moving and get your lungs working.  Think good posture because then your lungs can fill better.
