Back of head weird feeling

I've been trying to research this, but how do you say weird feeling like something crawling under your skin at the back of your head on google? lol!

I keep getting anxiety forums with people saying things like feeling impending doom and such.

Not at all me.  Just a really terribly annoying fluttering at the back of my head by the crown of my head (the part where you hair goes in a circle - does that make sense?).  It's been going all morning.  I sometimes have it sporadically and also in other parts such as my face and my leg.  But never this long.

Anyone else have this or know what it's from?  Or how to make it stop?

If it is just a paresthesia (an abnormal sensation,) that is usually self limiting.  It can turn into a dysaesthesia (an abnormal painful sensation) over time.  Occipital Neuritis/Neuralgia is definitely a dysaesthesia.

The area on the back and sides of the head are innervated by the major and minor occipital nerves.  If this goes away, that is great.  If it becomes more irritating and increases in intensity, you will want to let your neuro know.  If it does move towards occipital neuralgia early treatment can prevent a very painful situation.

Thanks for your comments.

Bob - thanks for the lead, I did some research and there are some things that sound like it's a possibility.  Except that at the moment I don't have pain, but I do at other times.

jensequitur -  Again you put it into words I can't!  yes, like static - only constant.

Yup, yup...  I had the weirdest thing for two weeks - it felt like bugs were crawling all over my scalp.  Or electricity, like static.

It still happens, but only every once in a while.

Usually the neuro refers to it as paresthesias.  I would think a neuralgia would be more painful.  (Although I have had a doctor call my face buzzes neuralgia.)

Try searching:  Occipital Neuralgia   It is a condition associated with a spinal nerve at the C2 vertebrae.

I have the tingling in my head.  Mine is on the right side, in the back.  This was one of my very first symptoms.   I still remain undx'ed.

I am having cognitive issues right now so I think kind of crooked right now.  I can't remember what category of symptoms this is related to.   I am sure someone else will pop on here and answer this better than I could right now.  Lol.  But, I did want you know that you are not alone.

I have had the same paresthesia on my head before too. I don't know how to make it stop . I usually rub the area or apply pressure. It is a nerve sending the wrong signals that cause this creepy crawling sensation.
