OT Mr. and Mrs. Crack Head and the Taxi from Hell

It sounds like many of us are going through some complications and/or bumps in the road.  I had a very strange Thanksgiving starting with the event below.  If you want the entire story you can go to:

http://raggedsoul.wordpress.com/2010/11/28/mr-and-mrs-crackhead-and-the-taxi-from-hell/

Last Wednesday, the heater made loud pounding noises---it was so loud it was a bit frightening. It sounded like a drum-line on crack!  I opened the door to look and I was overcome with fumes.  So, I called 911.

I figured the firemen would fix it or shut it down so I went back to my chair with my laptop..

That's when two firement come at me really fast and said "we have to take you outside, the carbon monoxide level is extremely high.  You have been exposed to carbon monoxide----if you hadn't called you could 'fallen asleep'.

That's when they brought me to the gurney and EMT guys.  I said no, they said yes-----they won.  Once I was strapped in we took off on these rocky gravel roads with two guys trying to stick a needle in a vein.

I was treated with oxygen for 2 hours while they monitored my fingertips etc. Hyperbaric Tank wouldn't be necessary.

When I was discharged a few hours later I had no purse, car, phone, shoelaces or any money.  The staff gave me a phone and told me to call someone and have them pick me up.  Problem was, there wasn't anyone.  Staff would walk past and say "you really don't have ANYONE?".  I would say "yes, really",  they would come back and say "really"?

Eventually the staff called a cab and let them know I would have to pay them when we made it home.  So, I waited for about an hour and finally the taxi was here.

A nurse brought me out to the taxi, she had been acting as my walker throughout this ordeal.

I had a bad feeling when I saw the car, there was a woman in the front passenger seat-----she didn't look right but,  I didn't want to be judgemental.  So, I got in. He and his 'woman' looked like they hadn't slept in a week, they car reaked with smoke and they had leathery skin, they looked like crackheads.    .

As we pulled away the driver turned his head around to me, that is when I knew this was not going to go well.

He said "I know you want to pay with credit, but no one has paid me in cash and they aren't helping me".
"huh" I say

Then he said "look at this dial right here, look it is empty, I don't have any gas".

I am speechless.  Then he gave me the game plan:

"We are going to drive to your house, get your card and then we will drive to and ATM and get me some cash".
I am just dumbfounded that he would do this to someone coming out of the ER who is already weak.

He repeats his plan.

"I won't charge you for the trip to the ATM and back"

Somehow I mustered enough energy to tell him to stop the car, I ordered him to open the door.

An incredible day.

I made it home with the help of a doctor and nurse

the Santa Cruz event is both scary and amusing.  I can't imagine being tazed though and with your own tazer.  It would have been really scary with the gun part.

I worked at a forensic facility years ago when we had two guys escape from the lower security area.  They were somewhat retarded though---they were on their way to get ice cream.  Needless to say they ended up in my ward in the maximum facility building.  Hope the ice cream was good.

Wild!!

Geez, Red, I thought you were going to say it was a bad dream...that was a bit exciting though you have to admit.  but then I am a bit twisted..

I am glad you were not hurt from the carbon dioxide though

I do remember the Santa Cruz event, since it was closer to home..

Thanks so much everyone!  Never a dull moment I guess.  You make plans and then life happens.  The heater is fixed and I am fine, I don't think that I was ever in any danger unless I had just ignored the heater.  It was such a strange night----you are probably all too young, there was a show called 'Twilight Zone', I think I was snack dab in one of those.

It was a wild ride-3 things at a time---Bit Red thing.

Hugs,

Red

Wow Red what an adventure. I am so glad everything turned out ok and that the driver was fired. Thank goodness you got home safe. Next time go with your gut instinct and don't get in the taxi, we always have to trust our guts.

I am glad the heater is fixed and you are doing better with no ill effects from the carbon dioxide. :)

Take Care of Yourself,
Paula

Hey Red,

What you do, brake a few thousand mirrors, or is this one of those 3 bad things at a time situations? I think your as strong as steel, seriously I do, I'm not sure many people would of been able to keep their witts about them but you did, way to go red!!!!!

Glad it turned out ok, but please dont tell the next 'crack head' you've got MS and are weak from being poisoned, it could of been really really bad, just turn on your inner 'BIG RED' and get the heck out of there again. please!?

HUGS............JJ

Geez, and I thought I had a bad day!  I was working in Santa Cruz when an inmate/patient overtook his deputy, tased her with her taser, took her gun and fled to the surrounding neighborhood.  The entire hospital was on lock down until about 4:15.  A lot of drama (they did eventually nail the bugger)!

Your story was wild!  I think it must have been super scary for you since your mobility is impaired.  I'm glad the driver was fired.  You deserve a peaceful evening.  Glad your heater is fixed.

Oh my gosh you guys are hysterical.  The heater was fixed with in 24 hours.

What happened was that I was helped back into the ER where they promptly called the Taxi company.  Mr. Crack Head has been fired.  The taxi sent another out to take me home.

Lulu I think it was a little of both, yes--it was all part of the conspiracy.  Thank God I was able to squelch it!:-)

Wow, Red.  You really did have a feeling last week that you weren't going to last much longer.  Do you think it could have been the slow poisoning going on?  Or were you clairvoyant and knew about the taxi ride from hell?

I am so thankful you made it out of both situations ok, and able to share this with us.

hugs, L

I thought Quix's stories of life are pretty comical, but this one had me kinda laughing too. ( Of course I am not laughing at your's or Quix's pain)
I am glad that you are home and safe now, but holy cow, what a day you had!

Take Care, Pam
