just took a spill

Well I just took a fall down 4 stairs. I hit my head but most of it I stopped with my hands. I only have a small red patch on my forhead and a little red line.

I live in an apartment complex and I live on the bottom floor due to my leg but the bottom floor has 4 steps to go down because it is partially underground. Anyway went to check the mail and I fell down the steps. This is a first for me, well falling down the steps that is.

The laundry room is on the second floor so now I am wondering how I will manage that if I can't even manage 4 steps. Carrying laundry and doing steps, don't see that working out to well for me.

Anyway just had to rant...cause this is getting old.

I agree with Quix about the laudry bag, but I would got with a light weight one..

The one we use for camping is some kind of nylon (I think) and my wife just throws it in the wash.

Anyway, sorry you took a spill. I never fall down the stairs, however I have fallen up the stairs several times, usualy when I'm carrying something (once it was an open beer).

Oh, honey!  I'm so sorry.

I can't count how many times I've used the handrail to keep myself from falling down the stairs.  It's a good thing my triceps are still in pretty good shape.

How's the head?

I'm on the run and haven't read all the suggestions, but here's one.

Clothes into a large, heavy canvas laundry bag.  Tie to rope around your waist and drag up stairs.  Hold onto rails with both hands.  Or, depending on how secure the laundry room is, have someone haul the laundry up before you need to do it.  Then meet it up there.

Coming down, just throw that sucker down the stairs ahead of you.

This worked for my sister when her arm was broken.  However, her legs are strong.

Clumsy or not, "Whether the stair hits the head or the head hits the stair, it's going to be hard on the head."  (Paraphrase Sancho in Man of La Mancha)

Always best to plan to injure areas with the least feeling.  Good job!

Thanks Michelle,

It is funny that the part of my head I hit is numb, well maybe not funny but it is a good thing when you fall and bump your head. lol

I am staying strong and living one day at a time, that is all I can do. I have to keep a sense of humor about what is going on with me until I get a diagnosis. It is either laugh or cry. The pain and burning is hard to laugh about but when my toes start dancing it is pretty funny.

Today my face started dancing too lol, well the twitches made it look like my cheek was dancing, it was just missing the music to move too, lol

I use to cry at every new symptom but now I have learned to live with it and realize that sooner or later I will have a diagnosis of whatever it is that is going on with me.

I am feeling better, the twitching has calmed down and I will be going to bed soon so I will wake up tomorrow refreshed and ready to start a new day.

ok, now i'm laughing back...hilarious that the bit of head that got hit is numb anyway!!  (well--sort of!!)

oh, and i think lulu means that holding the rail is the foregone conclusion for everyone, but that it's the NOT holding of it that is not optional, right lulu?

yup, rail holding for me all the way!!

as for the laundry...i've got mounds and no excuses!!!

hope you are feeling better paula,

Lulu,

I was just saying I took a spill. My leg went out from under me.

Not sure why holding the railing is not an option for most of you. It helps keep me balanced as I go down the steps.

Paula,
I'm going to offer a positive thought  here - could it be that you were just clumsy today and took the fall?  And not the suspected MS?

I have done that more than once in my younger years - especially bouncing down the stairs on my tailbone.  That was really painful, for months.

Holding the railing is not an option for most of us!

take care, Lu

Jensequitur,

I usually always hold the handrail. I was today when I fell but I get my first reflex was to put my hands out in front to catch myself and I let go of the handrail. Just glad I didn't hit the brick wall that is at the bottom of the steps or it could have been much worse.

Jess,
My mom actually has one of those baskets you are talking about but those are hard to do on steps especially when you don't have balance to begin with. I helped my mom with her groceries with that one time before I started getting ill and it was difficult then. I will just have to have my son carry them up or take them to the laundry mat.

Oh that stinks! I took a flying leap off our stairs a couple months ago. It was the weirdest out of body experience. I'm glad you are taking the rest of the day to rest!

What about using one of those baskets with wheels for your laundry? I'm not sure what they are called, but I see little old ladies using them to hold their groceries all the time.

Hey, chica, take care of yourself.  You're going to have to find another way to get your laundry up and down the stairs.  Me, I always have to hold onto a handrail so I don't fall - but it's hard with a basket full of clothes.

Michelle,

LMBO you make me laugh. I always say I don't mind doing laundry, I just hate putting it away lol.

I am down for the night tho, not doing anything else. The one good thing is that where I hit my head is numb so it didn't hurt to bad lol...

Thanks for the laugh I needed it.
