Unbalanced/Vision Prob and APOLOGY

Apology:
I shall endeavor to keep my mischievious behavior to a minimum and not hijack any more threads.  I am sorry for doing so.

My vision problem from a couple of days ago has gotten marketly worse all of a sudden in the last 2 hours.

My peripheral vision has been reduced to 45 degrees in both eyes and my eyes seem to be focusing at MARKEDLY different lengths.

Also, it seems that I had been compensating for my lack of balance with my vision, because today I am all over the place.   I usually test my balance by walking down the hall with my eyes closed.   Today, I take 3 steps and solidly hit the wall.

Since discovering opera in 2000, it is just about all I listen to...  It is my passion.   I pretty much have opera music playing in my head 24/7!   Maybe that is my problem!!!  I hope opera doesn't cause lesions!  :-)

The MBA from Wake Forest is in marketing, sad to say.   I wish it was in opera!

Besides, I thought that ClosetEconomistWoodworkingEnthusiastMasterArrowheadHunter was a bit wordy!  :-)

Amo,

I have 500 miligrams.   I will ask them about that tomorrow, because I sure would like to have a Brain/C-spine MRI with contrast, since I have never had one, and have it ASAP.   THanks so much for that tip.   I will add it as additional Amo on my list for my Lilliputian (in stature and wherewithal) neuromancer (who sells himself as a neurologist) for tomorrow's appointment!

since you schedule appt tomoorw
do you know how much i.v. they adminsterd?
typicalll treatment for ms would be 1000  mg soolumedrol x 5 days

If someone asked this already sorry. I am curious about your name OperaMBA.  Does that mean an MBA in Opera?

Just wondering.

Isn't that amazing!

It was a relief to hear you went to ER.  Metal mouth is a small price to pay for symptom relief.  Hope you are back to your old self soon.

I forgot to mention, that in addition to liking opera, I also have listened to reggae for years, so you forever to me will be Dub V

To answer you previous question, they said I may have some more GoGo juice (a.k.a. IV steriods) tomorrow on my visit with N3 also probably schedule a Brain/cervical WITH contrast!    Yay, finally after 7 years of this craziness.

Thank you so much, I shall endeavor to continue to warrant the praise!

Laura,

You know the book Men are from Mars, Women from Venus...?  In my case I am from the planet Vulcan where Mr. Spock of Star Trek fame hailed from...   I am the servant of logic, so I yielded to the logic that was presented to me by the denizens of this fine community!   :-)    I had pointed ears too, but they have shaken completely off!

I just got up from a several hour nap, so I am more rested for sure!

I am definitely getting proper attention tomorrow, even if I have to sit on the little man!

I'll keep y'all posted for sure!

I have experienced what you are describing, the lack of balance and banging into walls.  Last year my balance was so poor it was scary to walk up or down a flight of stairs (no handrail, not very safe I know).  In my case the balance thing was connected to my double vision.

I've had IV steroids twice and they really do act quickly to calm down the acute symptoms.  I hope they work for you esp for the troubling vision problem you describe.  By now the nasty metallic taste should be gone.  If not, try candies or gum to mask the taste.  Try to take it easy today and rest, even if those steroids have you hopping.  Was the infusion a one shot deal, or are you returning to have more over the next few days?

I really hope that you get some proper attention from your neuro tomorrow.  Keep us posted.

Hi there, I always enjoy your commits, you have quick  Wit, about you!!  ( No PUN intended) :-)
I can't tell you how many walls and doors I have ruined with my electric chair, which is why I don't use it in my small apt. I use the manual one when I am at home. I think I have judged the proper distance to get through the door way or clear a wall, and I'm wrong.. I try not to get distracted when I am tooling down the road... I hate it when I run over my own feet... It hurts..
Richard, stay in touch when you feel up to it... Rest...Rest...REST!!!!!!
Hugs to all of you on this beautiful, but Hot day...

I'm glad you went to the ER and hope the steriods kick in today and do their job.  Let us know how you're doing when you get home from church.

Eye problems are one of my scariest symptoms, and I know how it makes you feel.  Hang in there, Richard.

Quix, I never thought of the pinball thing, that is a perfect explaination!!!!

I am so Happy you called your Dr. and followed through... Good Man.
Yes, Steroids can make you shaky and also quite Manic. Try not to give in to the Manic feelings, they can wear you out.. Rest & mostly do what ever you have to to get rid of the Stress...
Stress is Our ENEMY!! It will rear up and bite us every time..
I have to get ready for communion, so I catch up with you later on..
It might take a few days for the Steroids to kick in.. there are no Quick Fixes, that I know about
Hugs & Love...DJ

There are many here who will be happy to hear you were obedient and listened to the voices screaming at you to go to the ER!  Are you always subservient?  :-)

I have not had IV steroids (yet!) so I can't tell you if the shakiness is a common side effect, but my educated guess is yes.  I believe the stuff mimics the side effects of amphetamines (speed for us old-times!), which would give you that charged up feeling.

Let us know how your eye repair comes along today.

Sorry you're going through this,
Laura

My eyes are still the same and I am a bit shaky too.

I am going to church (just the service) and coming home and doing nothing the rest of the day, except checking in here.

I got contact with an opthalmologist from the ER, the docs did actually, who asked to see me tomorrow in his office.   So, I guess, I will kill two stones tomorrow, since I already an appointment with N3 (neurologist #3, for those of you who haven't been following my little drama... :-)  ).

I did get the call, and I went to the ER as suggested by the neuro.

I did get an IV of steroids, which I can taste in my mouth, by the way....

Home now, headed to bed.

My eyes are still way funky.   Peripheral vision in my left eye (my dominant) is totally not functioning.

Hi, there, I'm usually on the money for greeting new people, but have been out to lunch (an not coming home for midnight snack) recently.  I'll go back and read your early posts.

I totally resemble your efforts down your hallway.  As I have explained before, when the vestibular system is damaged, the bulk of balance falls to the eyes.  I figure the larger purpose of walls, furniture, and especially doorjams is to keep us righteously on our journey.  In the great Cosmic Pinball Game of Life, we are like the silver ball rocketing off one obstacle and then another.

When I turn to go thru a door I usually manage to hit both sides of the door jam.

As far as sudden loss of vision, if this is a new symptom for you, it is an emergency.  If you have known MS, then optic neuritis is not so much an emergency.  The treatment  with high dose steroids will calm the inflammation, but will not affect your future eyesight.  Treatment does not affect or prevent damage to the vision.  Large thorough studies have shown this very clearly.

We will get to know one another soon.  Welcome to our little haven.

Hope your neuro responds quickly.  If not, thats what the ER is for.
I also hope you feel better soon and please don't apologize, I find your posts a hoot and enjoy your humor.

Please let me know when He calls you back.. Thank you for not waiting... it's better to be safe, especially when it comes to your vision.
Remember, the eyes usually quite down once the inflammation clears put. That's where the steroids can help a lot.
Hugs coming your way...DJ

My eyes are still funky for sure.

Here is the deal.   I just did a test to see if I could get something objective that I could measure.

In excel I made numbers from 1 to 25 that were big enough to fill the screen all the way across.

I stared at the 15 with my right eye and I can see on both sides from the 10 to the 20.

But with my left eye (my dominant eye) I see maybe down to the 12 but I almost can't see past the 16 back towards the inside of my eye.

Things are definitely amiss.

I will call the neurologist here in a bit.

Thanks for everyone's concern and information!
