I had one last year and loved it. Now I cannot tell by your log on if you are a man or woman but a aord to the wise. If you are a woam a bra with extra padding is needed because that area will freeze to death.... LOL. But I am looking at a different type now that is water colled battery powered that lasts 8-16 hours because I love to fish.

I bought a fishing vest and then those ice packs from Wallmart that are flexible and you can cut up. I put the packs in the pockets according to my liking. I can also trade them out. I also freeze bandana. I have some of the chemical bandanas there okay. A baseball cap in the freezer a short time is also good. I have an old wool cowboy hat I use to soak when I worked on roofs all summer same concept.
Thanks for the advise on the bra. I'm a 44 otherwise healthy female. I chose the vest I did because I can wear it under my scrubs and noone should be able to notice. At least that's
what I was thinking. In going to try it out today. Should be ninety degrees and a broken air conditioner at work.
Have a great weekend everyone
I love reading "hints" for being comfortable with MS. This would make a wonderful health page . . . if there is already one, please direct me to it :)
Stay cool,
Sherry
Sherry the Health Pages at the top right has a lot of great archived information.
I wore a fishing vest at my wedding recently and bought the ice packs from walmart. I am going to try that trick tomorrow actually. I somehow lost my vest in the transition of my divorce last year and am going fishing tomorrow so my husband had suggested this until i got my new one in. I am glad to hear it works.

Were do you get these vest? It is 95+ here. The heat makes me feel bad (and I am menopausal ). How long do these vest stay cool? I carry ice packs with me everywhere I go!!!
TVAL - just wondeirng if you used on of the patient assistance programs to get this vest? MSAA and MSF both will help get these items and I've written about it a number of times. I sure hope the vest does the trick for you.

Interested to hear how it works for you. I have been thinking of getting one to use while gardening. Haven't pulled the trigger yet though.
Please follow up and tell us how it is working for you.

It's so funny that I stumbled across this post, because I was going to go online to Google "Cooling Packs" It hit 93 this weekend and I was downtown at our annual Festival of the Arts and thought that I was going to die! I don't remember having a problem with heat before, but this Spring I have had a hard time. I have some of those neck wraps that you freeze but since I spend a lot of time outside, I am going to need something more.
Where did everyone find these things? Do you have any websites?
There are different kinds. The one I had was a vest with pockets that ice packs went into and it lasted well. There ar others I have read a bout that the whole vest freezes. Then there are some that are battery operated that runs cool water through them that last. Up to16hours. I loved mine.
