OT: Charity Run

My teenage daughter came to me the other day with a proposition that absolutely blew me away.  There's a charity half marathon in Melbourne, Australia on 26 July that she would like to fly over and run in, and fundraise on behalf of MS research and our local MS Society.

The age restriction for the half marathon is 16 but as she's not old enough I'll have to ring them today and see whether she can enter.  She's already run a half marathon in under two hours so no problem doing it.

I'm so proud of her.  Although I don't have a definitive diagnosis, only been told that I will be diagnosed with MS now, I think what she's wanting to do is great.  I know part of it is her way of coping with what's going on with me, but what a wonderful way of dealing with it.

Oh, that is so lovely! What an amazing young woman.

You must be so proud. Firstly, because she is so generous and second, because you are a driving force in the development of such a spirit.

I'm guessing she's a chip off the old block. :)

Congratulations and I hope they allow her to enter.

What a great kid. I have seen some wonderful kids with MS or a parent with MS win scholarships here in the Carolinas. Kids can blow you away.

She sounds like a wonderful girl!  And fast, wow!  The one thing my kids are getting out of me being in this "limbo land" is the ability to see others in a whole new way....they are learning about empathy, appreciation for the things that we all take for granted, resiliency when things are tough and that "life's not fair".

I love that your daughter is taking your struggles and finding a positive way to show support and to help others.  You definitely have reason to be proud!

Godspeed to her!
