Hey Terry Guuuurl! A hiatus huh? From all you describe sounds like the only hiatus you took was from the key board! ha/ha....Well, no, we know how it goes. Been crazy for me and the fam too - but our members are never far from our hearts.
Welcome back hugs,
-shell
Glad you're back, Terry. I've been a slacker myself in reference to this forum, but it's likely to stay that way as I beat the bushes looking for souls to save and sponsors to feed me while we seek the souls. That's my only income now, and it is teaching me what faith means, moment by moment.
Has the little-boy-on-the-way been named? I keep suggesting Zeke, short for Ezekiel, but nobody's taken that recommendation yet. Nancy and I jokingly call her newest grandson Zeke, because the name his mother really gave to the little cutie is, well, not one we'd have chosen.
Best wishes with Grace. Sounds like a big blessing and a big challenge rolled into one.
Hey, Mustang00, have you checked out Westies in detail? They can be a handful, like most terriers. Still, they're adorable. I have an online buddy involved in Westie Rescue; if you can send me a message with contact info I'll try to put you two in contact.
Blessings to all.
Happy to see you back as well...wow you are busy. I too am looking for a new dog..i still have my Jesse but would like to have another. I want a West Highland Terrier. I am currently checking all the adoption places cause they are expensive and i would rather save a dog than buy one.
Hope you have a good day.
Mustang00
Terry,
Start her on basic obedience as soon as you can. A class is recommended because of the distractions. Take it step by step. Get her CGC. If there is any therapy dog training I would go with them. There is a place active dogs. com. They have books on training a your service dog. The sooner you start the better. Find out what your State requires for registering a service dog if you wish to take her with you. Teaching her not to bark is important. Take it slow. It took me years to train Polly. You push to hard and scare or overwhelm a dog it takes longer to fix.
Polly has it easy in that she is deaf. She trusts me more than another dog so going out in the world was hard but she accepted I would take care of her. We go in and out of traffic and by everything that would scare a normal dog to death.
Alex
Thanks for the welcome back!
Yes it has been crazy around here. It will be worse. I have not had a baby in the house since my boys were little! I will post pictures when he arrives.
Lu it has been in the teens for highs and single digits of the night, with snow, snow and more snow. But we are headed for a heat wave...upper thirties by Wednesday then back to snow. :0)
Alex, it is a sable, rough collie. Her name is Grace. I will post a pic. She is extremely smart. I mean scary smart. I want to have her trained as a service dog for me. If she just picked up the things I dropped she would be worth her wait in gold. However, it appears if I want her trained I will have to do it myself. There are no trainers around here who go past Canine Good Citizen training. I intend to enroll her as soon as the weather breaks, but most of it seems to come naturally to her.
The wishes for peace and quiet are much appreciated. I could use some now. I think the closet I shall get will be during my scheduled MRI tomorrow. It is of my lumbar spine. I have major pain. Like my GP said, even if I find a pinched nerve it doesn't explain everything wrong with you. But if he does find one it will at least explain something.
take care friends and stay warm.
PS Quix don't try to stand in the wind!

Terry, I'm sure the crazy weather just south of us here has kept you at home more than usual. I keep reminding myself that each day is one day closer to spring!
And a new baby in the house? I hope it will be a good experience for all of you.
Stop through here more often - even if it is just a quick hello. You are missed!
be well,
Lulu

Wow, things were definitly crazy over at your house. Hope your new grandbaby arrives safely. Take good care of yourself. It must be difficult to go through all of this, but that's what mom's are for... :)
