Yes, tinnitis can be a caused from MS.
I am still being tested and in limboland so it's just something I am noting until we figure this all out. I had a "flare" in June and the new symptoms were tinnitis, fluctuations in pressure between my hearing and palatal myoclonus (which sounds like a flutter, clicking or moth in your ears.) Sometimes, it's just one flutter and then my hearing will fluctuate like I'm going to get ringing then nothing happens and everything returns to normal.
I too have the phantom phone rings, probably due for a new hearing test
Yes I have had my hearing tested and had some hearing loss but its been several years ago. I have had problems with my ears.since childhood. Had to her ear tubes in my 40s for infections. The Dr says I have so much scarring on ears hes surprised I hear at all.
I have been reading about tinnitus since I posted yesterday and do see ms listed as a possible cause on each article. Interesting.
Sometimes, I've heard, MS causes hearing loss but it is rare. I have hearing loss that I believe is related to MS. Along with that, I have tinnitus in both ears. When I first developed it, I had hearing loss in only one ear and didn't know I had it until college when we all had free hearing tests by other college students. Later on, I developed the ringing.
I have had the swooshing in my ears in time with my heartbeat, too. This was due to HBP for me. I also get phantom phone rings that sound exactly like my telephone. I usually get these in the shower in the mornings and will rush out of the shower to answer the phone only to find it isn't ringing at all.
The audiologist told me that it is possible that the MS has caused the sensory-neural hearing loss, but it could also be caused by other things. I need hearing aids for both ears--one mild hearing loss and the other is moderate. I can't afford the hearing aids, though.
Have you had your hearing tested?
