My lesions showed up very clear on a 1.5t and I have one of those pics posted on my page if you want to look. I began to make a guess about why some do and some don't show up, but it all sounds ridiculous. The truth is I don't know.....

Hi WAF
Gosh i didnt know that about quix i knew she had mri then she had another mri and they showed i never realised that hers was done on a lesser strength then on a 3 t mine was done on a 1.5 t and no contrast or MS protocol when i pulled the consultant up on the strength and the lack of contrast he said there was no need for it??
I am NHS and all machines are 1 or 1.5 only private is there 3 t machines in the uk and not many that i can trace. I cant afford to go private and i only have one more referal to use its abit like 3 stikes and your out over here but i can appeal for another referal if this neuromuscular consultant cant find out what is wrong!
I guess you cant blame them they do the mri and its clear what is left for them to do but what worries me is will this disease carry on inside me till what i show such physical damage and then they do another scan and find multipal lesions and then it too late? why do some lesions show on 1.5 and others dont??
Thanks
Yes, I have almost daily trouble with a weak voice. Can't project my voice well, sounds like I am sick - am hoarse etc. My voice usually starts out alright in the morning and generally gets worse as the day goes on.
With MS, you can, indeed, have voice issues, voice weakness etc. Sometimes you may have lesions in the brainstem that can affect speech, or it may just be from fatigue which tends to get worse as the day goes on.
Two other diseases, besides MS, come to mind that can involve a hoarse voice: Parkinson Disease and ALS (Lou Gehrigs). So often the 3 conditions of MS, ALS, and Parkinson have such similar symptoms that people are often wrongly diagnosed with one and then later find out they really have one of the others.
You say you have a clear MRI - and yes, you can still have MS. Have you have an MRI done with a 3.0 Tesla MRI magnet? Look into that. Quixotic1, among others, had totally negative MRIs until she had hers done on an MRI with a stronger magnet, a Tesla 3.0.
Facilities try to keep their MRI magnet strength a secret, but you can find out if you insist on an answer. Ask your local imaging center what strength magnet they used for you. Then, if it is less than a 3.0 (which most likely it is) investigate other imaging facilities until you find one with a 3.0 Tesla and then have your future MRIs done there!! Good luck!!
