my husband has has ms since 2004. he has been on betaseron for 2 years, ivig for 2 years and tysabri for 2 years. he has not ben on any meds since aug 2010. he is now on steroids and has to decide what med to go on. he had to stop the tysabri because he was building up antibodies against the medicine. he former doctor suggested he go off it and consider the oral medince. since then his doctors prtice closed and now we are seeing a new doctor. we are very confused. does any one have any advice?

Gilenya has an amazing success rate.  The screening before you begin treatment with it is absolutely essential - the doctors need a baseline to go by later on as well.

He is willing to try anything that will slow down the progression. It's just so hard to make a decision. He is feeling fine right now, but we can see a slight change in his progression since he has not been on any meds.

Ok - active says enough. We have a handful of Gilenya users below. I understand your apprehension over something new. Rebif is a high dose of interferon - but probably comparible to the Beta. No harm in trying and change again. Is he getting sick of the switch? Or, is he game to dive into something....

Hi, His doc suggested Rebif or gilenya,. We are a little afriad of the gilenya because it is so new. You have to see so many specialist before you go on it. Do you know anyone on gilenya. Thanks for your input.

Hi, I'm not sure if the lesions are increasing. The doc did say that they are active.

The drugs he has been on only leaves 2 approved dmd's that he hasn't tried.

Copaxone, which is different than the interferons, and Gilenya, the oral med.

It sounds like his ms may have moved past using Copaxone and you need to bring out the big guns, which would be the Gilenya.  It has some side effects you should learn more about, b ut it has a very impressive rate of slowing relapses.

Good luck, Lulu
