Overy Cyst (complex)

Hi All,

I am 26 yr old. 5 Days back i came to know that i have a 3 CM Cyst in my right overy. The cyst is a complex one with a small solid area at the base of the cyst. The doctor had asked for CA - 125 test which came negative (value was 6).

This is the first time i have faced this thing in my life. doctor is confident that there is nothing cancerous as CA - 125 is negative. she has asked me to go for 6 weeks medicine.

i want to know that shall i go ahead for CT - Scan too or CA - 125 and other blood tests are sufficient enough to know that it is not a Cancerous one.

waiting for some replies

Regards

Manu

I'm Kay and I'v been told I have a right ovarian cyst measuring 4.5cm....i'v been told to take some birth control pills but upon further reading I got to know it has a lot of side effects. I want to know if there is any natural means for me to cure this cuz it gives me a very painful menstrual experience...thank you.

Actually there is no such test to confirm whether an ovarian cyst is cancerous or not without doing an operation for the cyst and take the cyst for histopathology. But I think it may be too aggressive for your condition at this moment. Just wait and stay calm for a couple of weeks and get another USG. You can decide whether an operation is necessary by that time.

Hi VWu,

Thank you so much for the information.

Actually that's what my area of concern was. As per my doctor, I should not go for CT Scan and wait for few weeks time. She is saying that solid area out of complete 3 CM CYST is very very small and CA - 125 is good enough as of now.

I just wanted to know that whether i am on right track or not.

one more thing if u could guide me about how could anybody confirm that whether it is cancerous or not. is it blood test or CT Scan or better techniques for ultrasound or anything else.

Regards

Manu

A negative CA125 does not exclude cancer. No blood tests can diagnose ovarian cancer. If you are very worried, you can get a CT for more information of the ovarian cyst though it may not help much. The size of the cyst is quite small but if it is complex, u should definitely follow your doctor's advice and get a follow-up scan in a few weeks time to see if it is getting bigger. If the cyst is related to the ovulation, it should disappear by that time.
